eyup Nigel good to see the loco back i like your filing reference clamp, good to see the die filer in action. Accumulation is the enemy of loco building, sometimes a compromise is best, don't tell the rivet counters i said that.!!!😄😄😉😉👍👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂 see you next time atb Kev

superb attention to detail. I'm not a loco man myself and to be honest I wouldn't have known. but knowing you Nigel I'm sure you will work something out👍

Thanks. I think most loco builders are more focused on getting a running engine than adding detail. For me adding the detail is much more interesting. Thanks for watching, it's much appreciated.

Hi NIGEL After the lion construction the next project could be a little hydraulic press...🤔 The die filer is a very useful equipement for the thin metal sheet. Bfn Olivier.

Thanks, I'm enjoying using the die filer, it's easier and more accurate than filing something held in the vice.

You learn something new every day! Never thought of a filing jig like that. Much easier than trying to line up the material in the actual vice jaws, especially when the light's bad. Thanks again from Cornwall.

Gday Nigel, I’m sure you will possibly come up with a solution to have the rivets there, the die filer is working a treat, great episode mate, cheers

if you could make a video showing the valve gear and its motion in detail, you'd be a real lifesaver. i've been trying to find information about the london to birmingham bury locomotives' strange linkage, which isn't like anything i can find pictures of, and this is the only other locomotive i've found that has similar gabs.

Thanks for your interest, I'll take a look at a more detailed video when I get back onto the valve gear though that's a few weeks down the line. I've still some valve gear work to do and I've still to properly set up the valve gear. There is some valve gear info in Anthony Dawson's book "Lion, the story of the real Titfield Thunderbolt". It includes gab valve gear as well as Mellings Radial Valve Gear. The information is quite limited though, it provides some description and diagrams, there are photo's of the gab valve gear taken from underneath the loco. I hope that helps. Nigel

Would it help at all if your vice filer was hardened? Thinking of making one. :) although making it hard would be a reall challenge in my small shop.
@GoCreatehms
@GoCreatehms 5 күн бұрын
Yes, hardening my filing gadget would help prevent it's wear but would be hard on the files. It really doesn't wear very quickly at all and is esay to skim over on the shaper or mill. Personally I prefer to leave it soft. Thanks for your interest and comment, much appreciated.
