Lion vs. hyena cub

Interesting footage here. It’s shocking that the lions were not more aggressive given their size and numbers. The young male stood his ground but the females seemed very timid and watched while their sisters got attacked. The numbers were not in the hyenas favor. That many lions should have sent them packing and perhaps mauled one very seriously. No big males present which would have changed the whole situation

Although the lions had the numbers on their side, they got brutally attacked and mauled by hyenas. And you said it yourself, they are scared of the mighty hyenas. Female lions do not like confronting Hyenas because of the injury factor. Remember an injured female will not be able to hunt or take care of her cubs. So females have to play it safe. Remember also the females are the ones that bring the bacon home meaning they are the providers of the family provide food and nurse the cubs. they are the ones who go hunt. The males role are protectors of the family. Males rarely go out to hunt they normally appear after the kill by the female . The male assist the female when the female is struggling to hunt because the hunt is too big. the females goes out to hunt while the male stays back protecting the cubs. After the hunt the male and cubs go to the dinner table. Its a very interesting cycle. But if a hyena dares attack a cub with the female lion around the female will spare no part of her but attack the hyena viciously.

These looked like inexperienced lions and a group of hyenas well versed in what a lion can do to them.
