Informative and fun video: nice job! When we're talking prewar and postwar Lionels, every train becomes special now due to its age, but your 225E is especially important and it's great that you appreciate it . . . and still run it! You honor your ancestors every time you send that engine down the line.

It looks like the 224 has incorrect truck on the tender. Love the layout!! Thanks for sharing!!

I restored a 225e last year around christmas. Had to have been in a barn or something for many years due to its condition. But i got it cleaned up, and kept on the original paint. Rebuilt its motor and such and it runs like a top. Truly these things were built to last

Thanks for explaining the history of the manufacturing dates for these similar locomotives. Easily noting the differences in appearance shown side by side. And, running them on your layout. Not just putting them away on shelves or in boxes. Both are well maintained historical artifacts now in your collection! I believe that your great grand father would be very pleased to see that his passion for these trains has been passed on and kept alive in you. Many years and generations later. HooRah! 😊

Note that the entire boiler casting on the 225E is totally different from the 224E ! It is bulkier and has different detailing than the 224E ! The. 225E was meant for Lionels larger series of "0" gauge cars prevalent in the 1930's.

The 1666 is also very similar to the 224. There are two main styles the straight and the curved back of cab floor.

I'll tell you, don't be surprise if those old classics are STILL running 80 years from now! This may sound funny, but I actually like that light "halo" around the smokebox door of the 225! I've got a 1945 224 a good friend gave to me, I don't run it often but man, it's solid! Thanks for posting! And "Party like it's 1939!"
