Well worth the wait, for your review of the Santa Fe 4-8-4 northern ! EXCELLENT review as usual ! Held of purchase of 3751, or 3759 until your review was out. I STRONGLY AGREE with your comment on lionel's discontinuing the whistle, & cylinder effect on traditional steamers.

AWESOME review Eric!!!! Love the Northern, Lionel did a great job with it! Hopefully Lionel will come to their senses and bring back the advanced smoke effects, swinging bell, etc. The last couple of years have been great with all of the new and exciting innovative features Lionel has brought to the hobby! Awesome watching the 3751 & 3759 double header,

Another great video! I wonder, with all the sounds that Legacy system has, I wonder that they've never added a wheel flange squeal for curves and such...the could put the control switch for it on a passenger or freight car. Just an idea.

Wow, she's a beaut. 3751 is running on the Surfline, which is by my house. Anyone who hears a steam whistle while on the Surfline, it'll be 3751, but she doesn't have the smokestack that you have on it, or so I believe. I have seen her, and she is the most magnificent locomotive I have EVER seen, atleast for now. Everything on it is amazing, IRL and in model.

What a item. I’ve built a shelf in my room downstairs at my house. Took some tracks and set some Lionel Steam Locs on the tracks with their coal car behind them. They are all lined up. I don’t have a train diorama but I am gonna make one for them. I just have the trains all lined up on my shelves looking awesome. I’m gonna have to make a train diorama for them so I can see them drive pulling cars.... that’s another thing I have to buy for them. I also will buy freight cars and diesel locomotive models to make it really realistic. Lol. It’s just something to really enjoy playing with and looking at. Model trains are so fascinating. Especially the steam ones because they look like the real thing. They all work. Steam too! Such a fantastic model well worth the price!

That's a very cool locomotive! One of my favorites that still operates in real life. It sucks that Lionel is getting rid of such cool relatively new features though. Lionel produces NASCAR diecast cars now also and this year they took a lot of detail out of the engine compartment and chassis. They say costs are rising but I sure hope they're telling the truth.

Michael Leidy Why would they be dishonest??
@richardtater79453 жыл бұрын
@@robertnielsen2461 I believe hes referring to them (Lionel) possibly wanting to keep the profits ($$) hush hush. Think about it. If you found out that 90% of the sale price was profit would you be as quick to hit the 'Buy' button ? Even if you are a millionaire. Its just human nature.. Yes, the 90% profit is over exaggeration but just trying to make the point.

Eric, You are right about Lionel's mistake in eliminating the steam whistle effect. I was going to buy their GS2 and Berkshire but I stopped when I found out they do not have this feature...BIG Mistake Lionel. Now my money will go to MTH, they seem to be more consistent. I hope Lionel listens to their customers who are loyal to them for years and pay their salaries....Cheers for a good review Eric.

As an HO and S fan I am impressed with this locomotive. Love the steam whistle effect. I just converted an O Gauge two rail brass locomotive to QSI DCC w/sound for a customer and it operates great. Certainly didn't add all these extras however. If only I could. Great video and point for Lionel. Remember however it took them decades before they ever built scale equipment. Yes, I am an American Flyer fan from the 50's.

it would be neat if lionel could make a model of the 4960 from the grand canyon railway then many people would have a model version of the 4960 and 3751 double heading like they did at the nrhs convention special in 2002 and again in 2012

Hi Eric: I just watched your 2013 review of this beautiful 2012 engine and am wondering if anyone else has noticed that at the beginning of the video the graphic that comes on screen incorrectly refers to Lionel's product number 6-38055 (which is the 2004 version of engine #3751) instead of the 2012 product #6-11332. Just wondering?

I managed to find a pair of N scale steam with Soundtracxx Tsunami decoders. They are a S2 Northern and a Texas 10 Wheeler both for PRR the S2 is the shrouded version similar to the SP GS4. Pennsy never had one but it was a fun idea anyways. Great videos on your Northern and Texas engines.

@1993Warbirds11 жыл бұрын
I know I'm not Eric, but I think I can answer this question. Theoretically, it can be done with any engine. There a few ways that almost guarantee that happening, but the most common is having too heavy of a load attached to the locomotive. Two things will happen then. It either will pull and not move, or spin it's wheels. But generally with modern locomotives, and you take it slow with the right load, it won't happen.

It'd be cool just long enough for you to notice the black deposits (since the only way you can get black smoke is by incomplete combustion) accumulating on your layout and walls, followed by you wondering 'what is this doing to my lungs?' O_o

I love watching these lionel steamers, a pity they're getting rid of the good stuff from the ordinary models, that'd be the only reason I'd buy one, for these cost a lot of dough! Partly why I'm into live steam instead, costs less, and you'v got a real steam locomotive instead of an imitation of one, albeit a really clever imitation. I still like these, though, they look good and they sound amazing, wish I knew somebody who'd let me run one, if only just once.
