Tough to find Lionel Trains Original Dealer display D-265. See running Trains with operating accessories such as the 175 Rocket Launcher, 128 Animated Newsstand and many more. Shots with the lights off and the layout illuminated at the end are awesome!. Thanks for watching and check out more of the Rare and Unusual Lionel Trains on this Channel. Brian

Now this was a layout for selling trains. Three different trains running at once plus one of those levels changing elevation and two tracks entering tunnels.. Add in your stub end tracks for small motorized units. And plenty of accessories all around the layout. Great showcase for how superb Super O track looks as well. Lots and lots of action to catch the attention of people.

This layout is what we as children in that era saw in our minds while looking at those iconic Lionel catalog images. No matter what, these were toys and they are now very interesting toys from an American era that no longer exists. The sounds, the smell and the movements are all hypnotic and magical.

Great video! I do not know if anything that could have kept Lionel in business. America grew up. The jet age came in.The streamliners retired. HO took up less space,loaded with detail, cheaper. In 1959, I went in high school. Thank God my father packed up my post war collection , in orig. boxes.Did not see it till 2010. Building my new and improved layout with the help of Menards and E-bay.Thank you for the inspiration!

You are so right, the pressures even back in 1959 on "O" gauge Lionel was high and times were changing. Sears in Natchez, Mississippi had one. I was seven and it was amazing to this young boy. Of course, the nice Sears salesman gave me that Lionel catalog that I have to this day. That layout was larger than life itself. I wonder how many Sears stores also had that layout. It is my understanding that many Sears stores sold the items attached to the layout after Christmas.

Your eyes are not deceiving you, the center rail is smaller and thinner. This Layout is built with Super O track. The track was the top of the line track made by Lionel starting in 1957 and replaced Standard "O" gauge track for a few years. The realistic track ties and the thinner center rail added realism to the model trains. Have a Super O track episode in the works. Thanks for the comment. Brian

Only in radius , but fast track does offer many radius curves The construction of fast track is cheap compared to super O.. The road bed is good for carpet layouts though.. Super O wide radius would be good for layout building.. But wonder if the cost would be so high . Atlas would still be cheaper? And Atlas is outrageous higher priced than both gargraves and fast track..

It's just what it is, a layout to sell Lionel trains in the window of your favorite toy store. Then charge one month's salary of a working man for it.
@BriansTrainRoom
@BriansTrainRoom 8 ай бұрын
Yes, it did help the dealer sell more trains and then was able to sell off the layout to pay for it. Time is money, so buying that layout would have helped someone have a layout who could not have built one themselves. Smart marketing for sure. Trains were expensive, but well-build and will last a lifetime if properly stored and used.

Can be rebent to 072 curves.. but not easy Lionel today should make a run of 072 and reg curves.and reg straight and 27 in straight sections.. Bet it would sell.... One could use Atlas switches. Yeah, I love Super O track and do wish they had made a wider radius during the postwar years. I have seen people re-bend the curves, love that. I get why they went to fast track, it is better for small hands and was certainly cheaper than re-issuing super O. Great layout as well. Thanks. Brian

A spectacular layout! Many interesting camera angles , too. Definitely very well filmed. Thank you, Brian. Do you have any information about those backdrop curtains with the train illustrations? They look great!

HI John, Thank, always trying to show these awesome displays in as much detail as possible and working on getting better and better shots. The fabric was produced back in Late 50's to early 60's. I don't think it was officially licensed by Lionel but does depict Lionel trains from 1958. The fabric shows up on E-bay and shows. It makes a great backdrop for filming around layouts to help keep focus on the trains. Thanks. Brian.

@@BriansTrainRoom My mom made bedroom curtains from that material. Still have it somewhere - a bit faded. Why isn't the radar antenna rotating.? Also can't see the 140 banjo signal working. Otherwise a great video!

Yes, still working on my filming of these dealer layouts, didn't show the 175 in action as well. Thanks for the feedback and will get more accessories working for my next one. And the fabric is so cool!. Brian@@burlingtonbill1

Hi, the great thing about this channel is that I have had the opportunity to visit and film some awesome Postwar Lionel trains and share them with everyone (Great stuff on the way!). Because of that I do have to maintain some level of privacy with them as well. Some collectors or very open about their collections and others are much more private. I will disclose names on occasion when I have permission. Thank you for the question. Brian.

What brand track was that? I thought Lionel only had tubular track in the 50s.

Super O track was used. Was the best track available and was very realistic. Made between 1957 and 1962

What do you have connected to those signals to keep them from bobbing up and down as the cars pass? No way is that just an insulated section.
@BriansTrainRoom
@BriansTrainRoom 8 ай бұрын
I do believe it is just an insulated section, but more than 2 sections of track. That is the key to keeping a consistent connection. Thanks. Brian
@worldsgreatestride
@worldsgreatestride 8 ай бұрын
Yeah I guess if it was longer than one section that would help. But usually what happens at the end of the train it will bob up and down when one car is left of the insulated section. I did not see yours doing that which made me think you have electronics on it.

The track with the General would have worked out better if it went the other way. Crossing gate sensor.

If going the other way, the General would not be able to push the consist into the sidings….. also, the instruction manual shows that the train should run left to right. Great video!!! 👍🏼

It was made my Lionel. It is called Super O track and it was available starting in 1957 and was produced until about the mid-60's. It has nice details and the trains look great on them. It was top of the line back then. Thanks. Brian

Gee, I don’t even have to run my 12x8, 0 27 layout. I’ll just watch this on a continuous loop. I don’t have any derailments to deal with, I’m not spinning the power meter on the house, and I don’t have to pull off my huge dust cover and reinstall. 🎉Happy new year.🎉

The track isn't tubular - was it replaced?
@BriansTrainRoom

No, the track in original to the Layout. It was from 1959 and Lionel was producing Super "O" track. A more realistic version of the "O" gauge tubular track from before. LOOKS GREAT! Thanks. Brian
