Lincoln had to be the best POTUS ever. And it seemed he was a wonderful dad. Patient, loving, wise and full of good humor. I can't imagine him raising his voice in anger, especially with his kids. I don't care if Kris didn't look like Lincoln - His acting made me believe he was Lincoln, and all in all, this movie was done very well. I love the music used in the movie. The tune played at the end credits kept playing in my head. I'd like to find more music like it.

When I heard that Kris Kristofferson passed, I looked around for a copy of a film that he appeared in called "Tad". I had a special interest because some US Colored Troops (USCT) re-enactors, myself included, were tasked as extras in the film. In the scenes where Lincoln is meeting with his son Robert inside the tent, I am the soldier standing guard at the entrance of the tent. This really brings back some great memories and after the scenes concluded, Kris was gracious enough to thank me and shake my hand. He seemed like a very nice person. I'm really sorry to hear of his passing!

Excellent movie and acting. Abraham Lincoln has always been my favorite president. He was a president who truly loved the people and his country. He is the reason that we are the "United" States of America. If only presidents today were as honest and loyal to the people of our country as Lincoln was. If only the presidents today would do everything possible to unite America rather than divide us.

I was saddened to see a story about Tad Lincoln that fails to talk about why he was so wild. Thomas was born with a cleft lip and palate. As a result his speech was difficult to grasp by most people and he was Lincoln’s youngest son. Tad was a bit spoiled and was allowed to interrupt meetings running and playing through the White House rooms. This was likely because Lincoln was gone on the circuit as a lawyer for long periods each year for approximately 26 years, the harshness of his own up bringing and Tad’s disability. Lincoln was close to his mother and older sister who both died when he was young. Thomas gave Lincoln lots of affection and relief from the tedious tasks of the presidency.
@Nyx7736 ай бұрын
@@christienelson1437 I also found it odd that they didn't portray Tad's speech impediment. However, the story is supposedly Tad's memories. As such, maybe Tad would not think that his speech was a problem? His speech problem was "cured" after Robert hired an elocution teacher for him a year or two after the assassination. And when Tad returned from Europe, he had a German accent.

Since President Lincoln was taken after the assassin's bullet cut him down. A great number of books written by each subsequent generation. What has so often taken a back seat to the larger then life man is the fact he was a man. He was a son, a brother, a husband and a father. A lot of attention has even been given to he and his family. What is overlooked to often has been the man that mourned. We can only imagine how he felt at the death of 2 children and the local young man cut down in early action. This nation was not and has not been served by a greater man so dedicated to his oath of office and his strong belief that no person should be owned. To this day our country should thank God for send this man at that time. He it not been the study hand of that rural breed Grandson of a Patriot we may not have survived as a country. How would/ the world look if this nation had not been endured?

This was a very nice movie. It had a lot of inaccuracies and anachronistic features. But I think it is a good introduction of Lincoln history for children and adults. Since the premise of the movie is that it is Tad's childhood recollections, then one could assume that any inaccuracies are the result of his faulty memory. In real life, Tad had a severe speech impediment in which only those who knew him well were able to understand him. Thanks to Robert in 1867, Tad had elocution lessons to correct his speech. Tad spent his last 3 years primarily being schooled in Germany and returned to the U.S. a couple of months before his death speaking with a German accent. The portrayals of Mary and Robert also were not quite accurate, but acceptable. Mary was very permissive with her sons, not scolding. They downplayed her aristocratic manner in which she thought that she was better than everyone else. But I'm glad they included mentioning the incident at City Point in which she berated Mrs. Ord, reducing her to tears. Although Robert was a bit of a prig, he was of great comfort to his mother and knew how to talk to her to calm her down. The movie over-emphasized his crankiness. Before the assassination, Robert was known to be jovial and almost as much of a prankster as his younger brothers.

Abraham Lincoln's grandfather was Abraham Lincoln Sr., who fought in the Revolutionary War as a Captain of a militia. He was granted some land in the Shenandoah Valley of Kentucky and traveled with Daniel Boone opening up that wilderness. He owned 5,000 acres of the richest ground in Kentucky. One day while planting corn with is three sons, one of them being Thomas Lincoln, the father of Abraham Lincoln, the President, an Indian shot and killed Abraham. The eldest son, Mordecai ran to the cabin grabbed a gun and through the slits in the cabin aimed and shot the Indian dead. The Indian was fast approaching young Thomas who was reportedly 8 years old, crying over his dead father's body to scalp the dead man, and either grab or kill the boy. Abraham Lincoln Sr. never left a will, so the law always gave the property to the oldest son, that being Mordecai. Thomas went from being a son of a Pioneer in the Ohio Valley who was land rich to poverty, and having to make his own way.

I disagree with your blanket statement, please don't exaggerated to try to make your point sound more interesting. And please try to use more sympathetic language and not words like "crazy". A significant number of the Todd clan, including Mary, had severe mental health issues. At least one committed suicide and her half brother David was a sadistic psychopath. But it was not the "entire" family. None of her children were "crazy". Tad and Willie were mentally stable, just allowed to be overly rambunctious. Robert had a temper plus "nervous dyspepsia". He also had 2 near mental breakdowns (after the deaths of his son and Tad), but he was mentally stable otherwise.

In the movie, it shows Ellsworth tearing down the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, which didn't exist until late 1861. I'm glad that they showed the Colonel in a movie, but clearly because it is a family film, the producers didn't see the need to do a little research. The flag still exists, is a massive 14 x 24 feet, and is the Stars and bars, the actual National flag of the Confederacy...Also, the dude playing Ellsworth looks nothing like the real thing.
