"The Invasion of Tinian" (1944) Semper-Fi, USMC in WW2 - REEL History

80 years ago today! Starting on July 24th and with the battle ending on August 1st - The Battle of Tinian was part of the Pacific campaign of World War II. About 15,600 men of the 2nd and 4th Marine Divisions landed on the Island of Tinian as the invasion force.
It was fought between the United States and Japan on the island of Tinian in the Mariana Islands. The battle saw napalm used for the first time. General Smith considered the battle "the perfect amphibious operation in the Pacific War." With the help of Seabee ingenuity and General Schmidt's clever deception plan, the Marines were able to land along the Northwest coast with its two small beaches. By 0800 three Marine battalions were ashore in just 20 minutes, followed by bulldozers and later tanks.
