First time seeing this film, it was a good telling of the story that was Ike during the war years but for me the film I ever saw about Ike was played by Tom Selleck himself, Ike: Countdown to D-Day.

I'd like to believe the real life Ike was a lot smoother than the cheesy version acted out by Robert Duvall here. Cringeworthy doesn't even begin to describe the awkward relationship between the General and his driver. Tom Selleck's excellent portrayal of Eisenhower in the 2004 movie Ike: Countdown to D-Day is a much better portrayal.

I know Monty had a huge ego and was strongly disliked by the Americans but the way he talks to Eisenhower in this movie is hard to believe.

Yes, I am a big Robert Duvall fan but I don't buy him as General Eisenhower, and the dialogue is poorly written. It's funny because right before I read your comment I thought " too bad they didn't get Tom Selleck for this movie" he was great in IKE

Not sure cheesy is the proper way to put it. The portrayal…I find human and potentially comfortable so far in part 2.

Yeah I love Duvall but he plays it kind of tough where Ike was maybe more a realist saying some of those lines. I like just the small scene in Longest Day where One decides myself.

@au7-721 without taking this to the levels of Punch and Judy you seriously need to get your facts right before posting rubbish. The portrayal of Monty in this ancient production is a million miles off the mark. Please do some proper academic research if you feel you are able to post as an authority on Monty then back it up with a post confirming your reasoning, if you can’t do that then your opinion is second hand toilet paper.

Roosevelt is a Dutchman born and raised in New York. Eisenhower's German born and raised in Kansas. These New Worlders forget they come from the old one. The writers surely felt they had to make a POTUS sound too magnanimous and intentionally arrogant.

Loved the movie but too much Kay. It did not reflect credit on Ike to have been in an adulterous relationship with his driver. If in fact that happened in reality. So hard to enjoy a tribute to Ike with such a flaw playing a central role in the movie.

Those in the military often have connections with the opposite sex when stationed away from home. When the return home, they return to their American families. I know men who have Korean and Vietnamese children they don't know and never talk about. Their Americam wives don't know about the children. According to the book Kaye wrote, she and Ike never had intercorse.

The interesting thing is Britain lost the empire because AMERICA pressured her to release all her colonies. So they lost the empire fighting Hitler. Even though Hitler offered an alliance to them and directly said he wanted NO British territory. Hitler repeatedly offered peace to the West and to Poland. Instead we destroyed Germany and enriched the communist. Then we gave half of Europe to the communist. These Nations in the east fought with Germany against the communist. Across Europe thousands volunteered to fight with Germany against the Soviet union. The Polish corridor which was almost completely German ethnicity should have been surrendered to the Germans. WW2 could have been completely avoided. Instead millions died..
