Telfer was hard as nails as a player and a coach He was rugby equivalent of Alex Ferguson. Both are from the same generation of working class teak tough Scottish men.

Well said, Big Jim...someone should have played this to Roy Keane, in Saipan at World Cup 2002...instead of whinging that this isn't how we do things back home at Manchester United, he should have been grateful for the privilege of wearing his country's shirt and knuckled down to applying his skills on the world stage...

SA is a hard school for Rugby. They produce great Rugby players and greater teams. You must fight fire with fire.That is all they understand. It is a fantastic place to tour. The welcome you receive is outstanding. The Lions do well to win any game in this country that loves Rugby.

This can inspire anyone..... Apart from footballers.
@ashadeofnight13 жыл бұрын
The speech is inspirational aside from the rugby context. like when he says the honest man [player] looks himself in the mirror every day and says to himself "I'm going to get better and get better and get better..."
@lutonmale198315 жыл бұрын
Jim Telfer- what a fucking legend/coach/motivational speaker. I can imagine the players dying for him on the pitch after one of his 'bards'. This gruff 'mans man' Scot is exactly the sort of personality missing from 'modern coaching setups'. There is no ballshit with this man and no room for excuses. I love the way that Tim Rodber says that they're going to 'crawl of this fucking machine' and Telfer responds with a laconic 'exactly fucking right'!!
@doylustheboy13 жыл бұрын

I completely agree, like what sort of prima donna wants to do football training with actual footballs?? He should have just run around a bit and been happy. If he broke his ankle in a pothole on the training pitch that was his fault for not looking where he was going. Like who did he think he was, doing his captains role of bringing the players concerns to the management like that? He should have just been happy to have been there, like what has he ever won? Who is he to tell any1 what to do?
@AppByDesign11 жыл бұрын
A primary reason for this is probably because Matt Dawson doesn't speak in the video (have a look at the guy behind the guy who you think is Matt Dawson)
