Beneath the Bible

Жыл бұрын

Lions were endemic to the Ancient Near East including in ancient Israel. In this video we build on part 1 that looked at lions as threats, their association with kings, and as guards and today we'll look at lions links with the gods and how ancient Israel did, and did not, borrow from their neighbors symbolic world with lions. These two episodes are just an overview and there is a ton of other material we didn't cover. 11:05 Wow! This is so cool that David's self-described method of killing a lion is consistent with how Near Eastern Kings depicted themselves doing it. Since David goes on to say God saved him from the paw of the lion, do you think David's assertion of striking a lion dead while holding onto its mane is literal or figurative? (Also, what do we know about the bear?)
