I'm not expert in arowana. Depending on what you like: spoon head, short body, scales colour, body shape, long fin, low price etc and every fish have different personality. To me, choose a healthy and active fish more important (I will never buy those fish that 'parking' at one corner). You're the one who keep it and face it everyday, if you like it, it will be a good fish for you. Feeling very important, one look you like it, buy it.

No. Just like other territory fish, you can keep more than five to confuse them but never keep two or three. Either the big one will bully the small or same size will fight. (unless you got some plants in the tank for them to stay away from each other or from small you keep them together. Beside that, 5 feet tank also too small for more than one arowana, not enough space for it to swim and water also will dirty very fast. (bigger tank more water and water condition will be more stable). You can consider other tank mate for your aro. Too me, one nice aro is enough.

+Cony Ng To me, the most important is when I saw it, I like it. So ask yourself you like it or not. Beside that have to check any defect/sickness i.e: any scale missing, both eyes balance or not (some drop eye), the lower jaw is it longer than the upper, the fins the bigger the best and active or not , you can reserve the fish first and go back a few time to observe it (if always 'parking' at the bottom of the tank better choose others) Other thing like 'spoon head', broad body' is up to personal taste.
