This may sound stupid but I got my lip pierced yesterday and I'm very happy but I'm also very nervous that something will go wrong or that I get an infection. Another reason I got my lip pierced is because I'm bulimic and if I have a hard time eating, it will be even harder to throw anything up. And hopefully by the end of all this weeks of healing I can start to recover because I haven't been able to do anything. I showered today and all that, I used mouthwash and in the shower I carefully twisted the piercing a bit and then cleaned it. I just watch all these videos to make me not do anything wrong and get an infection because that's what scares me the most.
@BodyPiercingTattooing6 жыл бұрын
Soft cold foods are best. Sport shakes, nutritional shakes, baby food, apple sauce, smoothies, etc.. Just so you know there is no benefit to moving or twisting the jewelry. In fact it can lead to infection, prolonged healing and other problems. Just leave it be and it will be fine.

I went in to get standard lobe piercings and snakebites earlier this year. I was recommended by my piercer that I only get one side of my lip done because my body might not handle getting 4 in one day. Around 2 months later I had gone in for my 2nd lip piercing and after it had finally healed I realized how uneven they were. It was noticeable when I had the rods in because I could see that one was lower than the other, and when I put rings in, one would rest more slanted while the other one rested more upright. I took both of them out a few weeks ago because I'd like to get them re-pierced at some point. I'm planning on going to another place, but I'm worried I'll run into the same problem and I'd REALLY like that not to happen again. Any advice as to how to go about this?

I have anemia and I got my nose pierced a year ago. I forgot about mentioning it because I tend to forget about it all the time and when we pierced it, we had to apply pressure to it for a bit because it was bleeding profusely. I’ve never had a stud in my nose, my piercer was proper and made sure I was fully understanding of the aftercare. I paid $50 for the piercing because I was willing to get quality rather than lower price. My piercer gave me a small bag of sea salt to assist in the recovery as well as the aftercare instructions. He is an amazing piercer and I never had issues with keloids or anything because I religiously followed his guidelines. He ended up doing my second nose piercing the same way and once again in, I believe October of last year (yes, during COVID season and while practicing precautions, they don’t allow walk-ins anymore and you have to sign papers for COVID and the piercing now), I never had an infection even with the aftercare and having to wear a face mask during the time that it was healing. I’m looking into getting a lower side labret piercing now and I think it’s interesting of your aftercare including distilled water because I also have sleep apnea. Yes, even while wearing a C-PAP machine with a nasal mask every night, could’ve increase the risk of infection, but because of diligently following precautions with the cleaning of my machine and the aftercare of my piercing, I never encountered such issues. I always take great care to be cautious. I greatly appreciate this video and even though my piercer would also give good quality advice as well, I think the more expansive knowledge on the aftercare, the better. Since getting my piercing, I have always had a full stock of sea salt. I have created a good aftercare routine of: 1. 8 ounces of warm water with a tablespoon of sea salt 2. Put a couple of cotton rounds in the water 3. Let it soak and also grab some cotton swabs - Before doing all this and touching anything, I wash my hands properly with soap and water, making sure I wash every part of my hand 4. Place the cotton round on the top of my nose - Let it sit there for about a minute 5. As I remove the round, I wipe the top off and spin the piercing to clean that 6. Take a cotton swab and clean the top of the hole and use both sides 7. Take another cotton swab and clean the hole on the inside 8. Use another cotton swab where needed 9. Take another cotton round and wipe down the rest of the area, getting the inside and the outside as well as the piercing itself 10. When finished, make sure to have the closing of the hoop on the outside of my nose 11. Toss the water and the used cotton swabs 12. Rinse and clean the cup 13. Wash my hands I do this twice a day. I do it after a shower as well. I do this in the morning, if I take a shower in the morning, I do it after the shower and right before bed and putting my C-PAP on. In the morning, I also usually make sure my C-PAP is clean and do the maintenance of my C-PAP as I’m suppose to (clean the water chamber daily and the nasal piece, clean the tubing once a week and replace the distilled water at night before bed.) That’s my aftercare routine. I was wondering what you think of it?
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
I have completely switched to suggesting sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray. It's much easier and consistent. If it's the mist style just spray it on the piercing, let it stay in contact for 5-10 minutes, rinse or dry with a clean paper towel or sterile gauze sponge. Also I would not suggest using cotton balls or cotton swabs. The main issue is that cotton strands can get caught on the piercing and jewelry.
@adamharrington7234 жыл бұрын
@@BodyPiercingTattooingHow about cotton rounds? I use cotton rounds and they don't seem to split or shard off unless you were to rip them in half and use them.

Hello i got my lip done on top on the side about a week ago i got some redness around the ball and skin wanting to go over my ball u know what that can be
@BodyPiercingTattooing6 жыл бұрын
Could be number of things. My first question would be has the swelling gone down? If not the labret stud may not be long enough and may need to be replaced with something longer. Another issue could be that the ball is too small and is being pulled into the hole. This can also be caused by swelling and the post being too short. This soon in the healing I don't think it is infection but it could be a reaction to the metal or aftercare products you are using. I highly suggest seeing your piercer and having them take a look at it. If you don't feel like they have a solution to the problem, see another piercer or a medical professional if the issue gets worse or doesn't go away.

Hello, thank you for your very informative videos! I really want a piercing on the bottom left to wear a lipring, but still feel apprehensive. Some Q's: 1) would I drink with a straw? ...2) I understand no intimate actions but is light kissing also bad? My husband will be sad to have nothing for 8 weeks lol ...3) 8-12 week healing period, can you break down the stages for me? Like how much of that is swelling and really painful. ...4) No submerging = during healing time right? Like I can swim after 8-12 wks? ...5) If the piercing is on one side, can I eat other foods with fork and knife in small bites on the other side of the mouth? ...6) Medication-wise, birth control wouldn't be an issue right? ...7) 8-12 wks is a broad window (understandable everyone's different) so how would I know when mine was fully healed? Any signs to look for? ...8) Regarding toothbrush, I use an electric one. Can I sanitize my toothbrush vs. replace it? If so, what to use? I'm so sorry for so many questions (and on such an old video lol) but I really appreciate any help and further advice, thanks!
@BodyPiercingTattooing3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It depends on if it is comfortable to use a straw. Yes, light kissing would not be advised. The first 3-5 days will be the worst of the swelling, then it will produce discharge and start to slightly concave and eventually, with time, will be healed. You should avoid submerging the piercing during the healing process but can after it is healed. Eating on the side of your mouth the piercing is not on is recommended after swelling goes down. Birth control will not be an issue. If you are unsure if your piercing is completely healed you can visit your piercer and they should be able to tell you if it needs more time or if it is healed. The piercing should have an indented or concaved look to it, it should no longer appear irritated, there is no more discharge coming from the piercing and the jewelry can move freely. If you can change the heads on your electric toothbrush do so and store them outside the bathroom in a cool, dry place.

@Scornflakes5385 жыл бұрын
I have a question, I already talked to my doctor about it but he is against any type of piercing/tattoos. I was born with a heart condition. It's my pulmonary valve. I have wanted a lip ring for about 10 years. I have no "restrictions" physically, I do heavy lifting etc. When I was a kid i had to take medication to go to the dentist in case I got poked in the mouth, I asked about if this medication could be taken as a precaution or if it would help fight against an infection (endocarditis). He seems to think I would need to be on it for the rest of my life and since it's a "vanity" issue and not something necessary like a dental visit they wouldn't do it. I haven't been on this medication for close to 15 years now though. He told me "ears, eyebrow or anything non-mucous membrane" are fine to get pierced...so no oral, nose etc. My question (actually 2) is i know since I am more "high risk" for infection, more than likely i will be denied the opportunity anyway...but is there any reason for me to be concerned? Is there some rate of infection, and if I take precaution, am I really going to die from it? And another question, if I DO get it done...my job doesn't allow lip or eyebrow piercings...is there any way that I could possibly hide one of them?
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
First off with lip piercings there is really no way to hide the piercing. Also removing the jewelry of any length of time even after the piercing is healed, could result in the piercing closing. Oral piercing are more prone to closing than other piercings. Now as for your medical condition, I have little knowledge of your medical condition but if you are are more prone to infection I'm guessing that effects circulation. Which leans longer healing time, more prone to infection and if an infection did occur, your immune system would struggle with fighting of the infection. Medication aside you need to consider unlike a normal poke or bitting your lip, a piercing is a large puncture that we insert jewelry into to keep the wound open. The wound is open much longer than a normal wound and thus is more at risk to infection. With your condition, I'm guessing that you will have an even longer healing period. Thus even higher risk for infection. I'm not a doctor or a medical professional. I'm a piercer. If you came into my studio and asked this question, I would advise you to talk to your doctor and ask for time to research the risks myself. I'm curious about your condition only effecting mucous membranes. Understand that as a doctor part of their approach to treatment is to limit risks. Sometimes it can be of the extreme side of caution and often its for a reason. As a piercer I approach my art and my aftercare suggestions the same way. The last thing I, your doctor or an ethical piercer to see or be a part of you getting a life threatening infection. Do your research, be honest with your piercer and always consider the risks. We want you around for the years to come.

@BodyPiercingTattooing6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the placement and angle of the piercing, the size and shape of the jewelry, and the shape of your mouth, there is always a risk of damaging teeth, gums and the bone structure of the mouth. Any oral piercing has theses risks. However, if the piercing is done correctly and the jewelry is sized correctly, the risks can be limited. If you are concerned about this but still want the piercing your best options are either pierce with a ring slightly outside of the mouth or pierce below the gum line with a labret stud. When in doubt discuss your concerns with your piercer before hand to come up with the best option of your anatomy.

Got my labret 7 days ago and it seems to be somewhat embedding, to the point i woke up today with it completely covered by a thin film of skin. Thought about replacing the jewelry for a longer bar, but if I'm already switching it, would it be a terrible idea to get a captive bead ring instead, so I only buy one last piece of jewelry?

I've been really considering a Medusa/philtrum piercing! I was wondering from a piercer's point of view the use of Bioflex/Bioplast labrets. I want to use them almost right away after getting the piercing done for my work but I don't know if that would be healthy. I'd love to know your opinion! I also love your videos they are very informative and have helped me figure out a lot! Thank you!

I'm not a fan of putting plastic in the body and it can do just as much damage to gums as metal can. Which is the main concern with Medusa. It's not like a tongue piercing where there is a risk of bitting down on the jewelry. Biopoastic is a name brand. It is a chemical based product and the company that manufactures it hasn't been forthcoming on what is exactly in it. Since it is in your mouth and body, it safe to say that part of the material will be broken down and then either swallowed or absorbed into the body. How that will effect your health is completely unknown but is not an issue with implant grade metals.
@chandlermiddlemas2295 жыл бұрын
Thank you for getting back to me! Gum erosion and tooth damage are one of my biggest concerns for getting the Medusa. The advertising for Bioplastic always says that it's better for your gums, but I wanted to know from a piercer's point of view. Do you know how long it takes for gum erosion to begin? I know it's different for each person but an average would be nice to know. Again thank you!! ♥️
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
@@chandlermiddlemas229 the placement, angle and having the correct size jewelry have more to do with reducing the risk. I know that they claim that but they won't even submit the material to third party testing. It really depends on the person. I have had clients that have never had an issue after years of having the piercing. Others that they start to see issues with in a year.

I got snake bites a couple of days ago and was told not to eat yogurt or anything dairy during the healing process because it can cause yeast to grow in your mouth.-.
@BodyPiercingTattooing3 жыл бұрын
That is a complete urban legend and is based on eastern medicine. Dairy will not cause thrush. In fact yogurt will in fact reduce the risk of thrush aka a yeast outgrowth. This is because it is a great source for probiotics. It is all based on a basis against dairy and a result of the influence of veganism and Eastern Medicine on the piercing industry. There is no scientific connection between eating dairy and having a thrush outgrowth. Most dairy products do not contain live yeast to begin with unless you are consuming raw milk that has not been pasteurized. Why piercers continue to believe this is a misunderstanding of what causes thrush, the fact that it has been repeated as fact over and over with no scientific support and piercers not taking the time to research the facts.

@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
The piercing will usually begin to move to the surface and leave a scar behind it. Though Lip Piercings are prone to migrate a little on the inside, it usually isn't noticeable and if it is done correctly, I've never seen one completely reject.

Which piercing would cause less damage?? And I also have a question again, are cold food bad when you just got pierced? And what kind of liquids and food should I eat when I just got pierced?
@BodyPiercingTattooing3 жыл бұрын
OK I have to say that the nostril piercings is more socially acceptable and less noticeable scarring. Cold food is great for a healing oral piercing. You should avoid anything that causes trauma, agitation or pain. So spicy foods or extremely hot foods and drinks should be avoided. Basic soft foods at first are best.

Hy there I had a lip piercing A week ago. I had an stud on the lower right lip. Swelling is gone The problem is the discharge of s mucus type of thing. What does it mean?? Is it because of infection And later can i change with a ring later?? Its done horizontally done. If i can how much time should i wait? Thank you.
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
It is normal is see some snot like discharge that forms often in strings on the inside. Basically it is the same as the discharge that collects on the jewelry outside of mouth. Inside your mouth where it's warm and moist, it can't harden. If you are noticing this on the outside see your piercer. It could be a sign of an infection or other issue. You shouldn't change the jewelry until the piercing is completely healed. As far as changing to a ring, depending on the angle and placement you may not be able to wear rings or have to find oval shaped rings. Otherwise, the ring will be so big and have so much contact with teeth and gums it will do damage to your teeth and gums.

Really liked the video! I just got my lip pierced today with a labret stud on the right side. I noticed while eating that every time I chew, the back disk of the stud gets caught by my teeth and lifted up, this resulted in me chewing on the stud a few times. Is that normal with the starting jewelry since it's longer or could it be pierced somehow wrong? My lip is also swollen so not sure if that has any effect. I noticed it's pierced with a slight angle which is probably why the disk keeps getting caught by my teeth, don't know if this is because I specifically told my piercer that I'm not sure which type of jewelry I'm gonna wear in it but most likely will change to a ring eventually, could it have something to do with that?
@BodyPiercingTattooing3 жыл бұрын
First off this is an older video and I no longer suggest soap unless the area has been contaminated. Your best option is a sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare. The longer stud that we put in to allow for the swelling should be downsized if you are having issues with it catching on your teeth. See you piercer and have them replace the stud as soon as the swelling stops.

I have a question, one that I haven't seen anyone else ask yet lol. I am going get my lip pierced at the bottom off to the side and would love to have a thin ring in it. In the past I've had lots of complications with my teeth (my daddy's teeth also went bad at an early age and he has never smoked cigarettes or did drugs in his 56 years of life! He tried like hell to take care of his teeth but they still went bad! So apparently he passed the bad teeth gene on to me) Anyway, November 6th, 2018 I had all of my teeth surgically removed and got immediate dentures (which means that I left the oral surgeons office with my new dentures in my mouth right after surgery). I'm a 33 year old female with fricken dentures! I've been wanting my lip pierced since I was 18 years old but haven't done it yet. I've finally decided that I'm ready to do it and get it over with. Do you think that my bottom dentures will affect it in any way? Have you ever pierced someone's lip who had dentures??? And if so, do u know if they've ever had any problems with theirs? I know everybody's body is different but I'm curious BTW, sorry for the 'novel' I just wrote u 😂🤣

I also have ear piercings (the ones girls get as babies) and idk if the nurses had parkinson and made the holes in the wrong place or if I'm allergic but if I wear earings for too long they start hurting... After writing all this I'm just thinking maybe I just shouldn't get piercings at all after all, but still... They are so cute and I so want them idk help

No swimming until the piercing is healed. Meaning 8-12 weeks. No drinking for the first 3-5 days to avoid swelling. It doesn't matter if you use a straw or not. Playing with the piercing while it's healing will prolong healing, increases the risk of damage to teeth, gums and bones, infection and other issues. It sounds like you maybe having a reaction to low quality jewelry.
