These exercises are really improved my breath control. I began to vibrate my voice and got lots of endurance. Guys if you don't know how to control your voice begin from learning how to control breath. And these exercises are the best and best in KZbin

One of my most favorites- love the sequence! Jeff, I’m wondering what your thoughts are on other semi occluded vocal tract exercises? Tongue trills, chew and hum, using a straw, puffy cheeks... what is their intended purpose and would you recommend or not recommend? And why?

Hello Jeff, Thanks for all you do. I have started practicing my lip trills by trilling along with some of my favorite songs. I find that this enhances my vocal ability. Has anyone ever told you they do this? Do you see anything wrong with doing this? Thanks again.

Is it more effective to warmup the comfortable part of your range before working on how to sing over the break video? I noticed when I wake up in the morning before warming up I can only sing around like F#2-C4 without cracking. However, I have a playlist of your videos that I do daily and it warms my voice up. My range then usually is C2-Eb6 but I still have cracks at the transition points in the voice. For example, like prime passisago, secundo and tertiary. Any advice would be greatly help! I’ve been doing these videos for a while and I’m not too short what I am doing wrong.
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
In a word, yes. It's normal to warm up in the thyroarytenoid dominant range and then move on to the upper register. With time that may be less necessary. Thank you for watching! Thanks for a great question! All the best! Jeff

@@swizzy_j6946 He does! the gentle bass/baritone warmup is C2-G3, and the gentle tenor one is A2-D4 I believe

Question: what do you think about doing Raspberry Trills instead of Lip Trills? I don't know enough about the differences but when I do the Raspberry, my support muscles "shake". It's so much harder to keep the breath support doing them, while doing lip trills don't really challenge support-wise. Is it a good thing or I should stick to lip trills for these exercises in particular? Or should I do both (I don't know if they're different enough to be worth it doing both) Thank you again!
@JeffRolka5 ай бұрын
I'd suggest doing the lip trills the way that I demonstrate them in the videos. There are numerous advantages to doing them that way that go beyond the physical effort.

Do you have any short videos that focus on warming up that range F#2-C4 in the morning before doing the sing over the break videos?
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
Yes - but they wouldn't be labeled specifically like that. Try choosing a baritone video that does not have 'full range' in the title. There are several that are pretty short. You could then move on to the full range one's to sing over the secondo passaggio. Great question!!!! Thank you! Jeff
@jordanclaudio63524 жыл бұрын
I still use this. Love this. I do the baritone and tenor because I have the tenor and baritone range but when I sing a song it’s hard for me to get to those top tenor notes. What do you recommend?
@diegomaradona35614 жыл бұрын
You’re probably a baritone
@JeffRolka4 жыл бұрын
That's one of the paradoxes of the lip trill. Because the lips are effectively 'closed' they reduce vocal fold engagement by taking the weight of the air column off of the folds. This shows us what transitions and range could be like if we could achieve that kind of release. Sadly, the transition to vowels and ultimately songs can be tricky. If you haven't worked through the registration event practice, that would perhaps be helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6Opm4d9jM6Ua7c If you have, you might try to focus on the physical experience of singing over the secondo passaggio during the lip trill practice. Try to emulate that physical sensation while singing vowels. I would start with an 'e' to 'a' (from the IPA - 'e' = 'hay' 'a' = 'father') exercise. Jeff

Jeff Rolka I’m a new singer and I’m working on singing and working on my technique but I still don’t know how to get to those high notes, but my singing coach says I have does notes but when I sing it’s kind of hard and don’t know how to get ther

Why is it that when I do the lip trill, I can reach the note but when I open my mouth and sing the note it seems that my voice cracks. What videos you have can you recommend me to watch and do?
@JeffRolka6 жыл бұрын
Awesome observation and question! The lip trill takes a bit of the weight of the air column off of the vocal fold, hence allowing it to release a bit more and move through the transitions more easily. You're right, though, we have to move off of the lip trill to solid vowels in order for us to apply it to our songs. Part of the practice is to really focus on how (and how much) engagement (support) you're using while singing with the lip trill. Focus on applying that amount and you'll get closer. Great question! Jeff
@JohnMattC6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Rolka thank you for the response! Right now, I think I’m getting better when I try doing solid vowels (after i do lip trill, i try it with “ah/uh” vowel). However, I think my second problem is volume control. Can you help me with that? Thank you!

It's part of the process. Range expansion does require consistent airflow but an understanding of vowel formation and modification is necessary as well. Enjoy! Jeff
