It is interesting to see the different types of batteries. It is too bad that manufactures can not agree on a standard size, it would really make life easier. I have several Traxxas models and my charger is a Traxxas also. That being the case, all of my LiPos are Traxxas. The big problem with Traxxas iD LiPos is that you have to use a Traxxas charger, the good side is that, if you have a Traxxas charger, you just plug it in and press “charge” and the charger handles all the settings. It is possible to charge other LiPo batteries with this charger, but you have to set it up for manual charging and also you have to have several adaptors. My biggest gripe about batteries is all the different connectors, I try to keep it simple myself. For nimh batteries, I use a Tamiya connector, for LiPos, I use a Traxxas connector. I notice that you use the Deans connectors a lot, is that your “go to” standard? I have thought about changing to one standard connector, but cannot decide on which one. By the way, I really like that DT-03 and may get one myself.

Yes, for the most part I use deans, but I have a set of adapters for basically every type of car/battery if needed. For the Tamiya cars I still have the Tamiya connection on them and just use an adapter. On my Slash I have a dean's, but my Rustler I kept the Traxxas connector just for the warranty. I'll probably put a dean's on that too eventually. As far as the batteries go...yes, 100% someone needs to standardize the battery sizes...or maybe at least a brand like Gens Ace should pay attention to the vintage rc market and see what people need. The Gens Ace has the ridges on the bottom to that they match up in the cutouts in some of the Tamiya chassis like a TT01.

Yes, it's good for most Tamiya other than the vintage ones...I did find another one for those. It's a Gartpot 4000mah 50c battery, they fit the old vintage cars perfectly. Thanks for watching!

does lipo give you more range if I don't care much about speed? if so how much more time/range you get

If you mean range as far as the receiver? Then no. The biggest difference is you get constant power delivered to the ESC as opposed to a NIMH that is most powerful when fully charged then slowly loses power and gives you less performance as you drive. Also lipo batteries are much lighter so you will get more speed and longer run times.

How do you like the ZEE lipo with the leads coming on top? Does the dirt get in?

I haven't thought about it honestly, I don't remember that happening so far. The only issue is the foil label comes off easily, then you can't read what specs the battery has. Not a big deal unless you have a few different ones in your stock. But overall a great battery. I mainly use them in my Traxxas Rustlers and a few of my Tamiyas. Thanks for watching!

@@eekrc The problem with the hardcases is the possibility of tiny rocks going inside the protective case and go between the cell(s) and punch/rub itself against the cell causing an explosion.

My fart has more power than a 20c battery. A 2s lipo that has a XT60 connector is the go for me. If it doesnt have one then I will solder one on but thats just my opinion.

@@kanenstuff You need to see a Dr. then! 😂 It came with a car I bought, I would never buy that battery. 20c is not even usable. I like XT60s, I use them and XT90s on some RCs, but for the Tamiya and Kyosho kits I stick with Deans/T connectors. They are good enough. Thanks for the comment!

I just got back into the hobby and wanted to build two from my childhood, So I bought the Tamiya Grasshopper and Hornet. However I am finding it hard to get a 2s that fits in the Grasshopper/ Any thing you could recommend?

Yes, look into the Gartpot 4000mah 2s lipo...they sell them on Amazon. Those are the closest size to the old NIMH batteries.

@@eekrc Those are no longer available it seems at least in Canada. I found your video trying to find something that will work for my Grasshopper. I bought a Roaring Top 5200mah, but it's 2mm too long to fit, doesn't seem like there much material I can cut out of the Grasshopper to jam it in there. Any other battery suggestions?

@@jwasilenko I just checked, the Gartpot Lipos are still on Amazon, but in the US. I haven't found another brand that fits as well as those. If I do I'll let you know. There must be another manufacturer that makes them that size.

I have one of those 5000mah gens ace nimh. Gave me hours of crawling before it died.
