Discovery learning is a real... pain! We have the Jack-It as well but on our Outback I had to flip the head around due to the lack of clearance from the rear bike to the camper. But in order to clear the turn radius of the truck's tailgate, the front bike has to sit higher and the rear bike sits lower and I had to raise the entire hitch so that the trailer now rides slightly "tongue high". we drove from El Paso, TX to Orlando, FL like that and I never noticed any increased sway. Unlike yourselves, we didn't have to modify the plate and were lucky for a straight drop-in set-up.We too like the system and security of know the bikes aren't ripping off the trailers bumper or sucking up room in the bed of the truck. Now I just have to figure out a good way to secure a cover to the bikes, the bugs were the worst from TX to FL! Thanks for taking the time on the great video!

I have this rack and I love it!!! I have had it on two different trailers and it is safest and smoothest location to haul 2 bikes on a travel trailer. I am very careful when mounting the bike closest to the window to not hit it...but that is a small price to pay to keep two bikes secure on teh road. I agree that it is a awkard angle to lift a bike and an extra set of hands is very helpful. thanks for a great video...now I am trying to find the safest way to carry our remaining 3 bikes on the rear of our Lance.

I just bought a Jack-It bike rack and installed it today (June 6, 2020). I am glad to hear that you like it. Our next camping trip is July 4th for a week and I will really get a feel for using the bike rack on that trip. Thank you for the tip on getting the back bike down off of the rack. Sorry about the trouble you had with having to buy a new tongue jack. I was lucky I guess as our travel trailer has a Lippert tongue jack and I did not have to make any modifications and the installation was actually very easy. And for what it's worth, I paid a total of $180.07 on Amazon for my Jack-It and that price included tax that my state (Alabama) charges. The shipping was free. Anyway, thanks for the review and happy camping!!

Nice!! What a great deal and easy install for you! It's nice when things work out like that :) Have a wonderful time camping over 4th of July! Stay safe.

After wrestling with this bike rack for several days, trying to get it to work on my 2020 StarCraft ultralight I finally came to realization it was not going to work. I can be hardheaded and I don’t give up easily but the installation of this bike rack defeated me. It may work on other travel trailers, but it will not work on a starcraft ultralight FB212 because of how the front of the travel trailer bows out

Mama Gerties! I was just there a few weeks ago and also stayed on the upper section. Great spot.

Enjoyed the Lippert bike rack review and can't wait for your footage of Moma Gertie's :-) The new mic sounds great! Must go-to in the Asheville area: Breweries - Wicked Weed and definitely Burial! Burial is out of the way but guaranteed, you will love their brews! Make time for breakfast and at least one Bloody Mary at Tupelo Honey.

Great Video! Can you please tell me the overall height of the power stand (minus your added plate) ? We have a pop up trailer, and need to see if it clears the pull out after the rack portion is removed. Thanks!!

I will need to fabricate a plate like you did. What thickness did you use? Thanks.

Thanks for this video, we just purchased the same rack and were having a bit of difficulty placing the bikes properly. I looked closely at how yours are placed (as well as the hanging pins) and it helped me figure ours out. I finally clued in that you can disassemble the straight friction peg clamps and place an additional pair of them once you have both bikes in the optimum locations! :-)

We’ve been seeing this rack a lot lately. Nothing beats a truck bed rack. But if that isn’t an option this seems like it would be a good alternative.

Four Life- which jack did you end up with when you replaced the original to fit the bike rack? Because, with the same year and model, we're looking at the same thing. Were you able to find one with the same sweep as the original? Looking forward to seeing more updates from your travels.

Great video, very helpful, just instaleld mine and yes, we had to make a slight mod for this trip but when we are back we are going to redo it and drill out the welded a frame nuts and just use bolt and nylon bolts. The question for you, how much does that rack move when towing? Seems like there is some built in "give" if you will. We have to travel down some really bumpy roads in N. Texas and Oklahoma just wondering how it will react

How much weight is added to the tongue for the rack and the bikes?
@FourLifeAdventures5 жыл бұрын
Not sure - it depends on what kind of bikes you have on it.

The RV we're considering to buy often comes with this rack from the dealer / factory. Looks like it works well enough if you have some height and your shoulders work. Got the height, but age, injury & operations have wasted the shoulders. Guess the wife will have to be on one side while I'm on the other.

Trying to sell mine also, never installed because I have carbon fiber bikes and afraid that the frame has to sit on a metal peg and that would ruin the carbon frame.

@@LarryRichelli I am looking at these. I need to measure the tongue jack to see what height it is. What is the maximum height of the tongue jack allowed? Thanks
@Mike-br4sj5 жыл бұрын
Have the same rack on my Grand Design and it does great. People may ask what weight it adds to the tongue, but that totally depends on the bikes they have. A good carbon fiber frame bike vs a heavy huffy is a huge difference. I usually tell people 75lbs to 125lbs.

Looks like you must be attentive to prevent hitting the trailer windshield and breaking it with the bike pedals when putting the bikes on or off.

After two years of having the Jack It Bike rack, do you still like it? Do the bike bounce to much?
@brianwaddell60442 жыл бұрын
I have about 10,000 miles on trailer with this rack with two adult bikes and there is some vibration, but it is very minimal. I do have to make sure the padded protectors on the bike rack are in the correct position. I also use a few pool noodles cut to size to add extra protection. I am convininced that hauling bikes in any means has trade offs, but this is one of the best. If you can stand the added tounge weight and dead bugs on the frame.
@stevedewitt51883 жыл бұрын
I absolutely hate this bike rack. If you're short or have a little bit of a bad back you're screwed. I wouldn't buy this one again. Good video and audio and probably one of the better videos on how it works. Personally I think it's a horrible design for a bike rack.
@jeffrussum96974 жыл бұрын
Engineering fail ---back bike sits to close to the trailer very difficult to load an unload, have to disassemble to turn on or remove tanks for refill ..... simple fix if though through shortin angle piece with a unistrut hinge🤔
@LarryRichelli5 жыл бұрын
I am sorry I bought this as my bikes and wheels are carbon fiber and I don't feel it would be good for the carbon wheels and frame as they might be damaged with the bikes weight on them.Mine is brand new and for sale
