Hey gun lover here , the concept is nice , i doubt it can de able to shoot fast but it could be just by looking at how fast a car engine can go. Also , minor issue , you may need a special explosive liquid like a propergole of some sort , maybe nitroglycerine could work too but there's no air.

A mixture would be safer to store, might be worth looking at rocket fuels for that

to be honest, it was just an idea I threw out there, it's hardly an improvement over cased ammo, since any liquid fuel/oxidizer will barely deflagrate, the combustion speed will limit muzzle velocities. I came up with the idea for people in regions where ammunition is banned.

I heard the government tried to get the idea to work but had problems with inconsistent burn rates leading to overpressure. Then again, if they figured it out they wouldn't let anyone know till someone else starts developing it too. Imagine how much safer tanks could be if you could store all the propellant in a sealed off part in the back.

I've seen more than a few liquid fired arms concepts. Move the injection and firing chamber into the bolt mechanism to keep things linear. Look at how the AUTOCOCKER Paintball Marker works, with it's valving and such. Keep working on it.

Very intresting. Where did you get that idea from? And if it was yours then where did you get the inpiration from? It is a totally new concept to me, the most different and futuristic concept i have ever heard is plasma propellant that ignites with electricity and is not only more powerful but also safe because it can only be ignited with electric charges

It is just a combustion fueled air gun. A great idea. Anyone could make this given time and effort without the need for controlled materials such as gunpowder. The problem is how much power it can produce. This would be a great KZbin video. Something to the effect of 1000Psi is a fraction of what you need to fire a rifle projectile but if you took into account compression and volume, using the barrel to exhaust gas could be used. A traditional trigger connected to a park plug. (You would never connect it to an engine of course, because automatic firearms are illegal) but timing one of an engine with a clutch could be done. Given the ability to make that much pressure. Build it. It would put your channel on the map.

"PCP air rifles" also work with this logic and with a large air-filled chamber. PCP rifles; It is at least as effective as powder guns. But if you are going to stay in the land for a long time; You should also carry a 5-6 kg submersible tube filled with compressed air on your back.

@@tome8373 a 5.56 generates about 50,000 psi peak muzzle velocity, compressed air and hydrocarbon combustion could in theory generate such high peak chamber pressures, but the speed of combustion is evidently slower than nitrocellulose/nitroglycerin (cordite).

Impractical without a PROGRESSIVE burning liquid propellant; which does not exist.

Hope your liquid propellant can generate lots of pressure... When the firing pin in a firearm strikes the primer, it ignites the powder inside the case, creating an explosion that generates a large amount of pressure, often exceeding 50,000 PSI.

its a good looking concept but im a bit doubtful about weather it could work longer term. Metal expands when heated and that may mess up the sealant system of the upper piston by binding it in place or worse preventing it from closing properly. This heating problem may even cause premature combustion of the fuel in the upper chamber if the heat spreads and gets hot enough. Also, the design doesnt show any way to actually ignite the fuel so i imagine it would use a spark plug like a car would. Additionally, getting the timeings right for each piston would be very dificult as they would need to be timed perfectly to not spill fuel all over the magazine or open the breach while the previous fuel is still combusting. This added complexity also likely means that upkeep would need to be perfect and meticulous in order to prevent frequent stopages due to mistimings. finnaly is the logistics problem. bullets self containg their propellant within the cartridge offers huge advantages for use in military or even civilian applications. It streamlines logistics and supply chains by only needing to move one item and means that its harder to mess up the propellants. This and the development of smokeless powder (which this design would not have given its liquid fuel thus meaning a massive smoke cloud would happen upon firing) is why firearms by and large operate with cased ammunition, switching back to a seperate bullet and propelant system wouldnt be very practical.

Well, if he uses diesel, which is available on the battle field, and compresses it rapidly enough with the piston, he does not need a spark. Diesel ignites upon compression, even in an open cylinder (compression speed is king). Moreover, the liquid can act as the coolant. It works in rocket engines, so it would work in this application too, including when taking into account expansion of metals under thermal and kinetic stress, which evidently has to be accounted for here. Spillage of fluid via the breech is a problem that has been overcome (again, look at rocket engine plumbing).

If diesel is used then it would have to be a fairly large weapon to achieve proper compression.

I never expected to get so many views and feedback on what I had initially viewed as only a mediocre idea! The idea was to design a firearm that could be build entirely from available materials and use common combustibles as propellants, without the need to build shells, primers, and smokeless powder, which is difficult to synthesize. I never suggested that somehow cumbersome liquid fuel propellants were superior to age old gunpowder, but that it offered a solution against restrictions and gave users flexibility. The idea was to use bottled compressed oxygen along with a sufficiently volatile hydrocarbon of some sort to generate deflagration or standard combustion like in a diesel engine. While it would probably not achieve the muzzle velocities of smokeless powder, drawing from the fact combustion light gas guns using hydrogen/oxygen achieve muzzle velocities of 3000 fps, we could perhaps achieve 500 fps, enough to make it a viable firearm. I would love to see someone build a functioning prototype and solving some of the technical issues.

If you are using a bi-propellant this wouldn’t mix the fuel and oxidizer well, and if monopropellant, this would be extremely unsafe.

really unique idea but i wouldnt recommend using it unless you are using liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen and still it has a lot of problems for example it has no exhaustion chamber plus leaks may be really problematic the ammount of propellant needed would be high and not suitable for a gun and in general this is a bad idea but some tips its for example that instead the loading its like that it should be a rotating mechanism to load it and it should have a explosion sealed material plus extra layers agaist leaks making the weapon really heavy having a way to make a recoil mechanism to make it more like a recoiless gun and have a layer of insulator in the injector mechanism and still would only be effective if it was an anti tnak weapon able to shoot heat since the speed wont be really high even after all that modifications, in general this has no use as a weapon its completely useless too big too dangerous and too heavy but it could be used as an anti tank weapon if it was made in a bigger scale tho not really effective and i wouldnt recommend using liquid fuel or propellant
