The world needs more musicians, with overt talent and chops to prove it. I would much rather listen to greats like this, than a hired boy band, pass the audition, and you've got a built-in 12 year old girl audience. Jordan Rudess is a passionate master. John Petrucci is wonderful writer, as well as an extremely accomplished guitar. Rhythm section of Portnoy and Levin are world class. This music is a great performance, and you need to be a great performer, to be on that stage. Real people, doing something special that is real. How refreshing is that? Thanks for sharing.

Great to see the respect Tony gets, compared to the utter contempt Robert Fripp was shown in the G3 concerts. King Crimson was the true paragon of the heart of Prog Rock. Even Jon Anderson of Yes remembers how frightening King Crimson was back in the late 60's. Hendrix believed them to be the greatest band he had ever seen.

these days you read everywhere about people disliking Portnoy because he is not "good enough", Petrucci because he has no "feeling", and now also Rudess because he is apparently "annoying". People tend to miss the whole picture here. There are definitely more skillful players than these guys in the world, but not many have been able to write music and put together so many good songs (DT and liquid tension) for so many years. What you get from these guys is not only just difficult-to-play music but also you get their personality in every note and beat. That's something that 99% of "skillful" players can't do, being the reason for them not to become popular in the music industry. Think about it.. DT and Liquid tension play non-commercial music and have achieved an immense popularity for their type of music. That's real musical quality, people that can play whatever they want (20 minute songs) and still be that popular and even successfully tour the world..

Who is more skilled?
@jamesderekeikeland9048
@jamesderekeikeland9048 3 жыл бұрын
Agree, i don't get the sour comments about either of them but in my eyes they are some of the most skilled players in the world with a "nose" for great music and songs. John P just got the award for best prog guitarist 2020 with Steve Rothery second, both great players but very different, Rothery reminds me of D. Gilmour with a "feel" for playing that is on another level but he isnt as fast and technical skilled as John P but his solos hit you right in the tummy(John has great solos as well he he). I guess thats why bands like Marillion, Dream Theater, Haken, Maiden etc have such a big fanbase, their music hits the fans hearts and soul on a level todays popular radio hit music can't, how often do you hear their songs played on mainstream media? But they sell records and collect more fans at live concerts than many of those at the top of hitlists today. I love these bands staying true to their goal of making great music and please their fans rather than please the record companies view of whats quality music. They get to do what they love and you can hear it in the great songs and records

I just decided I LOVE Jordan Rudess in my musical life. I'm so happy he joined LTE and then DT. Yes, he's not as rockin' as Derek Sherinian can be and maybe some fans will never get over Kevin Moore's contributions, but to me Jordan really raised the bar musically and when he gets to shine in any group he's in, he's utterly spellbinding. I've been dipping into his solo records which are amazing - "This is Now" is currently my favourite, but so many beautiful moments.

Maaaan, those tunes remind me of this sweet period in my life around October-November 2019 when I was in 2nd grade high school and didn't have anything to worry about so I just hung around with my bandmates on Saturday evenings, smoked blunt on an obscure park bench in the beautiful city of Cracow, Poland and blasted LTE (alongside many more jams) on a JBL GO ... Now I've graduated, moved to Lower Austria and my bandmates kinda faded away - but LTE has stayed and will never go. You guys shaped me as I am today and let's hope that who you were for me, I'll one day be for someone else 😊

Damn what I would have given to see this.....12:50 starts the tears rolling. Petrucci plays with such emotion - a TRUE master at his art. Timeless stuff this is.

I have seen them two times in Detroit with Mike still in the band. They are such a progressive rock band and so very talented. Such complex melodies and rhythms. You can't sing along to it. You can't tap your foot to it. You can't dance to it. The only thing you can do is open up your ears and allow your brain to decipher the secret code they create. these guys are unmatched in what they do. A kaleidoscope of pure sound. You never get bored at there shows. This is such a tiny venue for this band. It must have been fantastic to be so up close.

This show and band are so great that I use this 2 hr music portfolio, or with some tweaks, to reach productivity Nirvana. Seriously, they must have found THE one and ONLY formula to isolate one from the world noise... It is heavenly awesome to focus

I was at this show...I remember being blown away at tonys handle on the stick and how he treats it like a more capable version of a bass guitar as opposed to the wacky guitar/bass/keytar hybrid it's supposed to be....when they first broke into acid rain it made the trip down from boston totally worth it

The world needs and hungers for much more of this type of music (call it progressive or whatever!), as the success of King Crimson's latest touring proves. Too much music is standardized today, too much power is given to fucking producers who are not musicians and/or composers themselves, and there is way too much looking at the charts ("what is hip today?" "What sells today?"). I guess this was always true, but perhaps more so today, and listening to this kind of stuff, one longs for a scene where much more artistic license and daring and experimentation is taken.
