[cont.] Regarding this tape’s content, this is easily the most hardcore thing that Mat has released under the Liquids name in a good long while. The past three or four releases have been dabbling with all sorts of sounds, with “Hot Liqs” featuring lo-fi recordings that were loaded with twang, and both the self-titled 7” and “Heart Beats True” EP being on the lighter side when it came to overall tone. The way I saw it, I figured that the Liquids was becoming less of a hardcore band and more of a garage rock band. With “Evil”, Mat seems to have thrown all that out the window by kicking off the EP with a blistering-fast hardcore rager, “7 X’s”. It’s a trend that seems to remain constant throughout this release, with a number of these tracks sporting a higher tempo that hasn’t been seen from the Liquids in a while, while still periodically catering to the melodious garage rock approach that this group is quickly getting known for; it’s an absolute thrill to listen to, in every respect. Even though this tape’s only been out for about a day, I can easily say that this EP is a strong contender for my personal favorite Liquids release so far, possibly even topping the demo tape that I still find to be so charming. I have no clue as to what’s going on with the Liquids right now, as the Bandcamp page no longer lists the groups’ members as before: I don’t know if that means that the live line-up broke up or if they’re just trying to hide themselves a little bit more on the information superhighway, but either way, I doubt that it’s anything to really stress over. If this is the kind of stuff that Mat’s able to produce on his own, then I’d say that we’re in good hands. Well, assuming that Mat wrote and recorded this tape’s material on his own. I don’t know if that’s still the case here as it has been in the past, since the tapes’ j-card makes no mention of anyone’s specific involvement, but I’d go out on a limb and assume that’s the case. If I’m wrong, then shit, that’s definitely not a first here at Jimmy HQ.

Snotty vocals, lo-fi recording, catchy hooks. This is old-school late 70s UK punk-inspired punk n roll done right.

Mat for president. Sense he already killed DT
@bobmarxley74458 жыл бұрын
dude, i don't think Liquids has what it takes to be president. didn't one of them go to jail? Brainbombs has never been arrested, man. He's the best candidate.

Only real punks go to jail. A fact. Poseurs need not apply. Safe and hiding behind other lame white folks. I welcome the retorts and insults. Bring them on.

Not that I endorse people to be arrested mind you, as jail does fucking suck. But I also think that punks that complain about cops and jail need to experience for themselves first to know when to whine
