In partnership with Canon Australia, Lisa Wilkinson has released the never-seen-before interviews with the subjects of her Women of Influence photographic exhibition from 2016.
Turia Pitt - 'The Inspiring Survivor'
Inspiring should be the middle name of Australian mining engineer, model, motivational speaker and author, Turia Pitt. Despite suffering burns to 65 per cent of her body from a bushfire while competing in an ultramarathon in the Kimberley in 2011 and being told she would never run again, Turia completed her first ironman triathlon in May 2016.
The 2014 New South Wales Premier's Award for Women recipient is now an official ambassador for Interplast, a charity providing free reconstructive surgery to people in developing countries. Despite facing a future with multiple challenges, Turia is optimistic, and above all, wants her story to make a difference - her mission is to make skin a more prominent organ in the repertoire of donated organs.
The humanitarian published her memoir in 2013 and lives by her mantra: “you don't succeed despite challenges; you succeed because of them”.
