What I love about Marilyn's makeup is that it was very customized. I believe everyone should study their face and see what's best for them and what actually improves their look. The heavy contour and the brow shape that's currently popular doesn't work on everyone, especially if it's not done well. Study your proportions, your symmetry and use make-up in a way that it's not a mask but a real life beautifier for your face

I want to imagine how a couple of years after this video, Lisa actually published a book on history of make-up and beauty industry -- and how proud she would be. I remember seeing Marilyn surrounded by the press and you could see, she was going through a terrible time. She turned her face to the wall, so the photographers couldnt take pictures............She still looked absolutely beautiful, hardly any make-up on and her hair was back from her face, as if she had just ran her fingers through it. A totally natural beauty. There will never ever be anyone, in the film industry, as beautiful as Marilyn Monroe
@thinkingallowed70422 жыл бұрын
When she says that Marilyn Monroe was a 'naturally pretty' girl, that is the understatement of the century. She had the most perfect face.
@kannot12 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of videos about the strict beauty standards of actresses at the time. She had to undergo numerous surgeries, painful hair electrolysis and she bleached her skin and hair for a fair look. Men do not understand "natural beauty" and underestimate the amount of work women put into their appearance😶👀

This is simply not an accurate statement. You may not think this is true 'in comparison to...' but you can't compare everything to everything else. An era comes to be defined by something by default whether we like it, or not. That is just how it is.

Lisa Eldridge is a true makeup artist, for me, the best that has ever existed. She not only aplies everything neatly and perfect, but she really understands how to use it in your favor not like most "makeup artists" that only cake makeup on their faces saying SLAAAAYYYYY and doing shitty things that only make you look like a different person, they just try to make you look like the same thing! But Lisa doesnt, she brings out the beauty in a person, make them look real good and as themselves at the same time. Love you Lisa, hope I can be as good as you one day.

monkeytine nope, i never get breakouts! Probably because I exfoliate everyday and always cleanse my skin in the morning. If your skin is clean (and I mean deeply clean, not just on the surface like face wash does) then this shouldn't clog your pores at all

Not trying to take anything away from Whitey here but I have read many, many books on this gorgeous woman and she often did her own makeup, particularly for photo sessions and in her last movie, never finished. The two did indeed collaborate as she knew every millimeter of her face and she understood key lighting - they worked to achieve it whether the director/s chose to use it or not. Also she had a special something. Her friends Jeanne Crane & Paula Strasberg reported being with her, at different times, when no one would recognize her. One time with Jeanne Marilyn did it for fun, to show off, Jeanne was a pinup girl and actress but with Paula Marilyn did this thing on purpose. When Paula asked why no one was recognizing her she said 'Oh I'm just Norma Jean now, want me to be Marilyn?' She walked out of a department store fitting room and did The Thing : She turned on the inner light and transformed herself into the Star she was...and they were mobbed by people wanting autographs and calling her name and nearly fainting with joy. Incandescent is what they say about her and it's so true! ~~ Would love if you could also do Dietrich and please, please, Diana Ross!! Thank you for this amazing series Lisa!!

This is the best, and most In depth, Monroe makeup tutorial on the internet. I have read several Monroe biographies and you have very faithfully recreated her look, all the while providing an extremely interesting, informative and correct analysis of Monroe's 'look', which is one based on details- about her makeup- provided by Whitey himself, and not on assumption and speculation. The research that you must have done, in order for you to have been able to recreate her look EXACTLY (which is what I feel you have done here) must have been great. I wish more makeup artists took the initiative, especially when doing period makeup, to study the makeup specific to the period that they are trying to recreate, very carefully, to ensure that even the most minute details are correct. I see it all the time in films! (Example: Great Gatsby- not faithful to the makeup of the 20's, at all). But this... This is very impressive stuff!! Well done!!

Nice to find this! I can't tell you how many hours over the decades I've spent looking at pictures and posters of Marilyn and trying to unlock the enigma of her unique eye makeup technique, as well as some of her center face contouring. Ever since I was a punk rocker with flame-ish copper orange & aubergine purple hair in the early eighties, back when you could get beat up on the street for having purple hair, and my mother gave me her hand me down Elizabeth Arden eyeshadow duo... One of the colors when I put it on made me get the idea of doing Marilyn eyes. So I got some false lashes for the outer corner of my eyes, and kept trying to figure it out ever since about 1983! At last I find your very technical as well as artistic and beautifully done explication of the artistry that went into making her face the wide open accessible enigma that it was!
