Actually Sasha was dealing with health issues back at that time and gained a lot of weight, and the stylists didnt know what to do, they didnt know how to style a chubby girl (which is completely wrong, it was their job, they should do it right), so they messed up all her oufits making it so unflater on her.

I feel like the reason Alison’s clothes didn’t match her when she got older is because the stylist didn’t know how to style Sasha’s body. A true stylist should know to dress all shapes and sizes so I think she was trying to cover Sasha up rather than thinking about the development of Alison’s character

Literally this! It was like the wardrobe crew didn’t even spare another thought to her other than that she was just??? Slightly larger???? Than the other girls???? And the thought process literally stopped there? So they just threw her in sweatshirts and baggy pants like??? It wouldn’t have even been that hard to ask Sasha if there were pieces from her own wardrobe that she would like to bring in that she thought might make sense for Allison as a character, but they didn’t even do that? They could not even do the bare minimum for that woman and it still infuriates me to this day.

the fashion in the show did not do the books justice. literally Sara Shepard wrote the girls to have different unique fashion styles. And Hanna especially was failed in the show. In the books, Hanna is supposed to be a fashion enthusiast, shopping at high brand stores like Juicy Couture and Alexander McQueen. But in the show they really made all the girls look like they shopped at forever 21… The only liar I’d say that had the best fashion and wardrobe was Spencer, and even she had her moments (ex: the dollhouse plaid dress that i still have ptsd from)

I lived in chile for a while and found that the fashion was especially influenced by the 80s, more than other decades and way more than other countries, South America or not. One chilean friend told me that it was because it was a "lost era" for the country. So maybe the studs can be explained by that ? Cause they were originally on trend in the 80s, wich is an era 2010s fashion was heavily influenced by.

i think feathers were big in the early 2010s because many American tween and teenage girls at that point felt pressure to grow up quickly. all of the “loud” clothing reminds me of a girl trying to look older than their age, which is how i felt watching pll at 12. many of us were insecure about not having the latest iphone or coolest clothes to stand out. There was always a theme of being more “mature” and “in the know” characterized by what fashion popular girls in fiction wore. i also dressed in silly accessories i bought from claire’s because i thought the ability to buy them meant standing out and being noticed. but also, “hippie” accessories in fashion were a huge deal back then. it signified playfulness, and being “popular” was about appearing laid-back.

Although I dont think their outfits were necessarily hyper-feminine, something about the fact that they each all did have such a distinctive style, that was still very feminine, and the confidence with their looks (despite them sometimes being extravagantly hard to pull off) really gave off such a unique quality, one that any of the other teen shows in the 2010s didn't have. The way that each girl's character was like 'enriched' by their clothes was so cool. I feel like pll almost shifted a lot of girls mindsets from dressing toward the male-gaze to more of a female-gaze, maybe not in the moment but as viewers grew older with and after the show. Another thing that pll gave viewers, including myself, was an horrendous relationship with caffeine which I totally forgot about until this video. Spencer's still iconic tho.

I feel like Pll is a great time capsule for all kinds of trends from the 2010s. Aria was always the most fun to me because her looks were very camp, especially in later seasons. And regarding Alison, it’s a shame that they dressed her down. I think it’s because the actress gained some weight and they didn’t know how to dress someone who’s not skinny. It’s really frustrating as someone who’s plus size, they could’ve made her look so iconic.

@@LisaFevral Yess, Aria definitely missed a lot with her fits but at least they were fun to look at. And I think they just completely ruined Alison in the later seasons. I was in college during this period and I remember this is when I first learned what a hipster was ….. as for the feathers I definitely remember “tribal” specifically being a thing maybe it was like 2011 statement necklaces yes and just all of it was part of fast fashion I got so much during this time from h&m and forever 21 … bodycon dresses and skirts ……. a really tight body con dress with like a zipper going down the entire front of the dress …. zippers absolutely everywhere! I also had a ton of oversized cardigan type things it wasn’t sweater material it was like a blouse or shirt material open in the front long sleeve that for some reason I kept on buying like it will go with everything and omg I did have this type of shirt that’s “shapeless but they have a very distinct shape” almost like a babydoll silhouette dress it looked like a tent and it could almost be a dress but for me they were too short and I could only wear them with pants it’s so hilarious because at the time I didn’t think about it I wore these things like BELTS all the fucking time and now I would never ….
