@@LisaFevral honestly such a great idea, one of those ideas where you hear it and its so obvious that you kind of laugh at how much sense it makes. there could have been a whole other theme going on where bella questions the ethics of being in a romantic relationship with a being youre studying, someone who is ostensibly not entirely human and whose entire history is essentially a warning label of "stay tf away from vampires". yet shes so intrigued by him that, often like reality, love is stronger than logic. i honestly think that might have pushed the book into the sort of weird place that things like lolita occupies, a novel take on a pretty controversial issue that succeeds in part due to how risque it is. its giving splice 2009/the shape of water vibes. and with vampires and humans, predator and prey. I think it would have been received a lot more favorably but maybe it would have been too controversial to have the reach that the original twilight has.

i was 11 when i had my twilight phaze and it's embarrassing but twilight actually shaped me as a person. like I'm a grown ass enby and i still emulate Bella's clothing style in the first movie and i still listen to a lot of the bands i first heard in twilight. both robert and kristen are insanely hot in this movie. love it or hate it, but twilight is fucking iconic. also Bella's look with the baseball shirt and a long sleeve underneath is fucking awesome, peak lesbian fashion and when i first heard you call it ugly i literally gasped, you are so wrong girl

i think bookwise both bella & edward are attracted to each other bc of their curiosities. & atleast with bella since she's so used to being there for everyone else - financially & emotionally - edward treating her like his one & only one is so different for her & she likes it. i think her fascination w/ d*ath comes from depression & edward being a vampire only fuels that fascination more. that's why she has a such a huge breakdown in new moon. to which book edward's response to telling bella why he left pisses me off to no end.

Yk it’s always interesting to me how people online all come up with so many different ways to rewrite the Twilight franchise and literally all of them are infinitely better versions of the original. Just today i saw someone on tiktok make it into a thing that essentially Bella and Edward are both new and social outcasts at Forks High and they form a genuine connection before anything else in addition to leaning into how socially awkward Edward is and that being acknowledged and made into a plot point. Wish i saved the vid so I could credit bc i cant find it anymore.

I’m forever mad at Julie Plec for making the Salvatore brothers in The Vampire Diaries southern aristocrats. In the books they’re Italian nobles and also way older than the TV show’s Civil War origin story. The CW basically added slavery into a story where it never was. They also added a lot of antebellum south propaganda in the school and with other characters that the book author LJ Smith didn’t do and it’s aged like milk because of those changes. Honestly it’d be cool to see The Vampire Diaries get a reboot more faithful to the books and set in the 90s like it was originally. LJ Smith did a lot of research in myths and lore vs Stephanie Meyer who just made shit up and googled vampires later when she went to write the scene about Bella researching vampires. In a way that whole approach is funny, but the lore makes more sense in TVD as a result of the early research.

It’s weird in the book Stephanie says the thing about how vampires are supposed to attract pray by being so hot or whatever but then she walks it back and says that up close humans have a natural baseline fear of vampires but it’s subconscious. Like how you would feel if there was a shark in the water with you or something. Bella is then described as not having that fear which makes her “so different” and “unique” to Edward.

maybe im being overly charitable but i want to believe that, dark as it is, the question of whether bella is hypnotized or not is intentional and meant to comment on a general feeling that even in our modern society, women lack a lot of choices. all the talk and expectations about controlling women's bodies, one reading i could see working is that in society, women often are still having major decisions about their lives made by men. that being said, its also not impossible for people to genuinely fall in love despite this (or so ive heard). is that love still true and genuine if the systems it grew under are sort of dark and evil? idk, i doubt this was ever the intention but i could see myself writing an english class essay about this.

I think this book is actually more depressing and dark than what Stephanie intended. Like it definitely has all these themes you’re talking of, but they were delivered through Stephanie subconsciously writing these things that show the way that she grew up too(lds church or whatever it is). I really love "Twilight". I think the problem is that people sometimes just follow trend. When this movie came out it's just became their target and other people followed it( hating on it). Another reason, some people want a perfect movie, where main acters should be perfect but that's so unreal. People always cry about bella personality but I really liked her personality because it was not a typical happy go lucky girl or very depressed one. She was just an introvert who liked to have small friend circle. At the same time they portrayed teen mindset so well in that movie. And I love that scene where bella and Edward share their insecurities with each other( actually it's Edward mostly) at the top of hill... He tells the truth about his identity and talk about that how she can leave her and why he fear to date her and bella listen to her, understand him and reassure him to take a chance. Some people just want to see boss girl rejecting other boys, which is totally ok but not every movie have to be like that. Because different kind of people exist. And this is a fantasy genre movie so there are some things which people need to remember that.
