I have to imagine the producer asking Lisa which octave she wanted to use for this song, and she literally said "all of them." She goes from low to ultra high, soft to belting, chest to head, and strong to breathy, and all fluidly. There simply is no one I can think of who can control their voice this way. There is a reason you have never heard a remake, or any young singer attempt this song on AI or the Voice. She's one of kind, one of one.

What a vocal powerhouse. She should've had global commercial success especially in the 90s like a Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion because Lisa was a vocal powerhouse as well. Lisa has sung backup for legendary acts like Luther Vandross (in addition to being in his group) and Sting. She can sing any genre from Sultry Soul to Grungy Rock. Lisa definitely should've did more Rock music. She definitely has the voice for it but the Rock and Country industries are very racist which is sad considering that African Americans created Rock and Country music and these genres have been stolen and white washed while Black artist have historically been marginalized to Urban categories of music like Hip Hop and R&B for racist marketing purposes 😑😑😑😑 Heck a Black woman (Sister Rosetta Tharpe) created Rock music. But I definitely wish Lisa would've dominated the Rock, Pop and Soul industries if the elites of the music industry had invested in her and given her a bigger commercial push. Nonetheless her vocals are still intact and she is heavily revered as an elite vocalist and many artist still pursue Lisa to sing backup on their tours and or songs. Lisa is a legend
@kayrobbie5840 Жыл бұрын
El John - I understand how you feel. But it was Lisa's decision to remain a backup singer. For 22 years she was a back up singer for Luther Vandross. She said Luther tried many times to talked her into going solo. She refused. It was her decision to remain a backup singer. By the way when she won the Grammy for this song. She tied with Patti Labelle for the win. She thanked Luther at the awards. She was so happy to share the win with Patti. She had her reasons for remaining in the background no matter what we think.

I can’t even began to describe how many layers, lush tones, pain and soul this queen has in her arsenal. I just can’t ! - I can’t! I will never forget this song.

This song is timeless. Lisa is incredible and has a gift from God. I hope I get the chance to hear her sing live one more time.
