This is exactly the type of video a makeup enthusiast, like me, wants to watch. I feel I am more interested now in makeup application principles and theory, and less interested in buying every new palette that comes out. I have bought so many palettes these last few years, but I can't continue to do that. I would rather learn the best techniques for applying what I already have. Thank you for making this video. I am excited to see more, if that is what you decide to do. Thanks Lisa!

Thank you Lisa!! Im still with Mac but attended basic training 20 years ago. This was so refreshing and a sweet reminder of the basics. In the Mac way, which is what I know. Btw, they stop making the PK binder aka "Mac bible" lol. They made it like kind of a worksheet / paper book. But the leather binder was absolutely fabulous! I miss the old Mac days! 😊

It's basically using moisturizing cream, highlighting foundation for creases and keeping your natural look but keeping it simple. Tip for lashes curl and apply mascara to ends of lashes let it dry and then apply mascara to your full lashes as normal. When doing liquid foundation use a wet/dampened sponge/beauty blender and press it in. I have to apply foundation when my face is fresh our of the shower in a steamy room. I have very dry skin so the more dampened it is the better the foundation sets. I use MAC mineralized cream foundation. I blend it in and then use my fingers to rub it in/off where it gets cakey. I use a brush and circular motion press it in then apply banana setting powder right away and it lasts so much longer. I use a peachy blush on lids and cheeks and keeps me looking warm n young.

Yes please! I’m in my early 50s but have much heavier wrinkling / crepey skin than these “over 40” ladies on youtube that makes eye shadow nearly impossible. I need more coverage than I used to but concealer and full coverage makeup settles in my heavy lines no matter how many tutorials I watch. These women don’t have jowels or deep marionette lines like I do. 😩 Please make a video for us ladies who don’t do botox or fillers or maybe just have bad genes or too much sun damage. I can’t even think about anything with shimmer. 😞 I’m about to give up trying to look nice anymore! I used to turn so many heads, now I only get hit on in my car with my sunglasses on lol.

I need more of this. I’ll subscribe. My skin is neutral. I have never had a contour look good on me and that might be because my slim body has given my face contour already. I have good bone structure. Contour makes my face look dirty. 2nd problem is my eyebrows are fairly low and closer to my eye than yours are. That’s what gives me less real estate in my eye lid than you have. Yes, I have learned how to make this issue look like less of a problem but I still have to live with it. Thirdly, I don’t seem to need foundation. Even though I visit the Nordstrom beauty area a lot and have been professionally color matched many, many times, I tend to look better when I wash my foundation off-that’s a problem too. I don’t have any acne or scars to hide. I wish you could do my face. I have recently purchased 2 MAC eyeshadows and I LOVE them. I need your training.

Are there different rules for highlighting older women?

Kari B Gold you look beautiful Kari ! Age is just a number :) one of the best contouring tips is rather than for mature skin is find a flat matte bronze color and brush softly in hollows of cheek , around the forehead and underneath the chin to create definition where skin tends to soften . A pricey but excellent bronzer is the Guerlain terra-cotta bronzer. Shade 7 is a universally flattering shade . Hope that helps . I believe there are beautiful soft shades of highlighters in the guerlain family as well .

What a great idea and excellent info. I really struggle with my small hooded eyes, especially now that I am in my 50’s. I also struggle with finding the right shade of foundation.

So happy to have found your channel. Love hearing about products, but especially loving your makeup tips. So very helpful! The color theories was incredibly helpful. I was familiar a bit, but this really defined it.

YES! Please do more of these...especially focusing on the various techniques for the different eye shapes. Would love to see you do a step-by-step demonstration of different looks. I'm new to your channel (as of today) so you may already have this. You can tell that you're a former teacher by the way you explain the theory and technique. As a former esthetician I am always looking fro new ideas, but you just reminded me that the classics are generally the best! I'm going to try all your tips right now:-)!

Ver informative. I haven’t wore makeup in years and I am 53 and need to learn how to apply it all over again. I also have hooded eyes now that I am older.

I loved this video. I know this is an older video, but Lisa I am fairly new to your channel. I just bought your brush set and I am sooooo impressed how everything that I have heard about them is spot. They are truly AMAZING! As for this video, I would need to watch over and over again to really let it sink in so I could do it on myself and not let my habits take over. I would LOVE to hear more. Do you have dates I should look at to find more about color correcting and color coordinating?
