Hi everyone! Lots of questions about the new MAC brushes being synthetic so I thought I would pin it in a comment... Synthetic fibers in the past have been known for being better for liquid cream products, but not as good for powder products. However, MANY big brands have moved away from natural fibers to be 100% Synthetic, not just MAC. There are a few reasons for this, but the short reason is that many of the ethical manufacturers with factories in China are moving to be 100% Synthetic. The factory that produces MAC brushes produces many other BIG brands you see in Sephora and in Nordstrom, who are also now 100% Synthetic. Synthetic fibers have come a long way and they have improved a ton, to mimic natural hair. We will see that finding a QUALITY natural animal hair brush line is going to be harder over the coming years, at an affordable price point.

What a great video! I have been buying brushes with abandon and now I know much better how to use them! The only thing I was hoping for was some specific direction on brushes for cream products for the face. I have mature skin and cream products look much better on me than lots of powder. However, I can use the great info you shared and figure things out from there. Thank you!

As usual Lisa, thank you for the brush tutorial. I still have a tendency to get my eye shades a little muddy, but I'm practicing! By the way I watched one of your videos where your little one was zooming around your house on her motorized scooter (or whatever it's called).....so adorable! And she's downright good. I hope your daughter is feeling well and not having problems anymore with seizures. That is so scary! I have two granddaughters and so I know how worrisome it can be when they have something going on. I worked for many years as a paramedic on an advanced life support ambulance and no matter how trained I was I still had a very hard time holding it together when a child was in my care! Yes there a lot of complaints about the MAC synthetic brushes and their price point for being synthetic. The long favored & loved brushes that are now are not so well received. This makes me a bit trepidatious about replacing my MAC 224 brush. OG 224😆👍🏼 I’ve heard your preference on concealer application but I have to say I’m loving the MAC 270 brush for my concealer. I use it under eyes as well as around the nose. The Maybelline Age Rewind concealer I now use didn’t work well with the MAC brush (#? faded) I was using and I heard rave reviews on the MAC 270. I’d like to hear your opinion on the brush. You have SO many brushes but I do have some of your MAC faves so I think I’m on the right track. 🙂

Hi Lisa, This video is fantastic!!! I often struggle with choosing the "right" brush for each task. I really appreciate your detailed descriptions for each and your reasoning for application. I like that you identify which brushes are best for smaller faces and eyes. I find a few brushes far too large and I feel clumsy sometimes using them, but it’s great to hear from you that I can use them for other purposes and in future choose a different brush. Investing in a full variety set of your own choosing is expensive so I thank you for sharing your knowledge which will help me to avoid costly mistakes in the future. 💕😚💕 Alli

I use that same IT cosmetics blush brush and really love it. I also have some elf brushes that I’ve been really into lately. I have a few of the bent small tipped eyeliner brushes from morphe that were only three bucks each that are both great for eyebrows and eyeliner and I think those are great for their price! I have one morphe highlighter type brush that I think is natural hair (I could be wrong) but it’s scratchy and has frayed out pretty bad after a few washes so I won’t be getting that one again. The only IT brush that I’ve had fall apart on me was the duel ended foundation and concealer brush. I feel like it should have held up a lot longer for the more hefty price tag it has on it. Brushes I’m going to buy this year will be fluffy crease and blending ones.

Appreciate this brush tutorial. I’ve been looking forward to it. Very helpful. When you get the order of the 3 MAC crease brushes to replace the 221 could you explain the difference between the older version with the new synthetic fibre that MAC is using now. I’ve heard it isn’t quite the quality anymore. I’m on the fence about investing in the new MAC synthetic brushes if it’s not any better than the Real Techniques versions which I have already. The MAC brushes cost a lot more.

Thanks for the video Lisa - this was fantastic! For face I love the morphe E34 for blending, E4 for blush. For bronzer I got a tjmaxx brush that I loved- it’s the powder brush by master of beauty - it’s a great shape for bronzer! For contouring I have so many favorites - one of the Mac ones is the best but the numbers are worn off on mine. Thanks again for the video!! Keep up the amazing videos in 2019!!!

I found this super helpful. I’d be very curious to see how the new MAC brushes perform compared to the ones you have. I’ve heard they aren’t as good for the price.

Hi Lisa - thank you so much for this video!!! Question about the MAC brushes - have you tried the new synthetic versions yet? I have a bunch of older MAC brushes (many of the ones that you suggested) and I was looking to get another 224 but I heard that the new synthetic ones aren’t as good and are scratchy. :( When you get your new ones, will you let us know if you notice any difference in feel and performance?

Do you ever use the mini sponges? My favorite is the Real Techniques but the Beauty Blender has them too.

Great video Lisa! I have a few of the same brushes that you have. I would love to purchase some of Wayne Goss' brushes...maybe in the future. Thanks for sharing with us Lisa!
