You wouldn't be implying guys have detector ego issues too? I can hear all the detectorists with a lesser machine saying it's not the size of the shaft but how you're swinging it lol. Then again if your hunting great sites with a lesser machine you're more likely used to getting the shaft lol Not all guys want to find the most or the biggest we would rather have the rarest or most scarce. Coming from dectorists who gave up using concentric coils for the bigger DD's lol Just having some detecting humor from a fellow detecting "swinger".

@@sydkanten1600 absolutely! Each button has a shaft that is just perfect for the button. Some are strong by and stand up perfectly straight ⬆️ just like they did in their prime. Some might be just as strong but are short and stubby. 🔼Some may have lost their ability to be fully erect and now just lay there off to the side. ⤵️And some buttons have no shank at all. 🚫 It’s important to remember it’s not the shaft that makes the button special it’s the button itself.💘❤️‍🔥

That threaded piece looks like a plug I dug with a makers name on it. It is about that same diameter with those fine threads. Mine I ID'd my the makers mark and it is/was the plug to a pre war of 1812 powder keg made in Massachusetts and I dug it in South Jersey. The keg is extremely rare and it sold at an auction for 5 figures! I need to find a guy with the keg and missing the plug lol it's like a small gallon size wooded keg which is probably why the plug got lost. It couldn't hurt trying to search the early colonial made powder kegs there can't be a ton on people making them in America in 1800-1810

10:55 is a cap from a small container used to keep a fake cosmetic mole. Victorian ladies would place one on their faces for cosmetic effect. They didn't have or use a lot of makeup but the mole was the fashion rage.

Is the lead heart maybe the backing of a Civil War era martingale? (Horse tack-Breast straps attached to the saddle). Many Union Calvary martingales had a heart shaped center piece about that size. I hope he checked the hole and surrounding area well.

As hard as it seems to believe but the number of coins lost is staggering. When I was 16 back in 1979 my dad got me a detector trying to get me to hunt with him instead of chasing girls all the time or being a nut on my dirtbike. Like most 16 year old teens I went about 3 times and started to lose interest because of all the relics which as a teenager you could care less about (at first). When I didn't want to go because he always found old coins and I dug big lantern parts or mason jar lids or ox knobs he told me to slow it down and dig every sound not just screamers because he said there's at least 50 old coins laying around this old farm. I thought he was tricking me and planting coins so I would stay interested because I started digging some old coins and my very first ever being a NJ Copper! When I said I think you put that there for me to find and he swore he didn't I said then how do you know there are 50 coins laying around here. He said this farm is over 200 years old. If only 1 coin was lost ever 4 years which is reasonable to believe 5hen there has to be 50 coins laying around "somewhere" so if you really want them go find them. And 40 years later I can probably still go squeek out a coin off of that farm that I probably hit 50 times and I have even brought my daughter's detecting there almost 25 years after I first hit this one particular farm. To squash anybody's theory that these guys don't really find that much I know 100% they absolutely do. The irony is I live pretty close to a lot of the places they hunt and I've even hunted a few of the fields they have. At first I recognized the power lines and know the street traffic noise as pretty busy highways run through a few of these huge colonial era homesteads. I won't disclose where these guys hunt because I wouldn't want anyone doing it to me. One day I hope to spot them because I would most likely stop, say high, introduce myself and wish them luck. One thing I have to say is you have to dig so much crap because there is so many good metal targets i.e. copper and brass. With that said I give Doug serious credit watching him be the first to turn the detector on and be the last guy swinging 8 hours and probably 100 holes dug later. He reminds me so much of my father who was much older then Doug and no longer with us but damn he was a hunting machine as is Dog Tag Doug. Sorry about the essay I got caught up in the memories
