'Listen' is a spontaneous composition by Ben Fernandez. As he played/composed this tune he imagined himself in an empty concert hall listening to the strains of a guitar playing this tune. Waiting and hoping that things come back to normal soon.

'Listen' is one of the tunes on ‘The Music Never Stopped’ - an album of 12 tunes (10 instrumental and 2 vocal) composed by Ben Fernandez. These were inspired by emotions felt during the Covid-19 lockdown in New Zealand. Tunes. Each tune tells a story . This album is also a reflection of Ben’s personal journey as a musician . It has solo piano, ballads, jazz, latin, funk and elements of world music. The tunes were recorded live at the Kenneth Myers Centre, Auckland, New Zealand

Hi Ben, Just wanted to tell you that your composition Listen is so so good. So catchy and hummable. I heard it when you first shared it several months ago and instantly fell in love with it. It got a fresh hearing when you and Warren played it again on Carlton’s show. And since then I’ve been ‘hearing’ it in my head and humming it all these past few days, especially the end of the bridge. It just grows on me!! I love the opening notes motif, and again particularly love how the bridge resolves with those lovely notes in the last line. Must also say that it was an inspired choice to opt to have this played on guitar, as Warren has played it with a sort of dynamic loud-to-soft inflection which is kind of easier on guitar - or maybe that’s just Warren’s way of playing it. I’m enjoying hearing it all over again now. Cheers 🥂
