Kevin Moore truly poured his hear out to this final closing song. DT ha not done any track like that but I love it. For some reason so much emotion on it

On the Japanese version at the end of the CD there’s a song called Eve. It was played just before my wife walked down the aisle at our wedding…

Space Dye Vest hit me hard when it was released as I had gone through a very painful breakup a couple of years prior that was still affecting me at the time. Even now it still moves me deeply every time I listen to it. And in case anyone wondered, yes I absolutely love the song. And the whole album too.

Scarred is absolute S-Tier Dream Theater. It has to be in the conversation for their finest singular moment.

Space-Dye Vest was an exquisit precursor to the beautiful music - full of samples and sadness - that Kevin Moore would subsequently make with his projects Chroma Key and OSI. Both very much worth listening to as well!

Just love the calm part of Scarred starting from 5:40. I'd love to hear DT doing some more melodically and dynamic songs on their upcoming album and not just the faster and straight forward songs like on Train Of Thoughts... Love the older albums for their dynamic and melodic parts which make the songs way more interesting. Again, kudos to Kevin Moore, which did such a good job for the athmosphere. Hope you enjoyed the album, Jim!

Exactly. Personally, I was expecting Portnoy's return could embolden them to go back to these roots, but so far, all the singles it's just more of the same from the last albums, it's like they sacked Mangini for literally nothing.

This album was a guitar woodshed for me. I loved the variety of Petrucci's parts and they are so fun to play. The seven string parts are so chunky and heavy! I would put the album on and play through the whole thing. That they were wrapped in killer songs is why they are some of the greats. This is such a great album when they were the most progressive "Dream Theater", imo.

Scarred is the kind of song that takes some time to enjoy it in its full perfection. It's a taste aquired. Space dye vest is simply one of the most beautiful songs ever writen. A perfect ending for the greatest album ever recorded in human history. It's hard to believe that the band that gave us Awake is the same band that released those 3 boring singles we got the past months. If you liked Space dye vest, check Kevins solo project Chroma Key, speacially the album You go now. It's brilliant.

@@sirschnee8737 nah, I just have the capacity to acknowledge that they are not that great anymore. Musicianship? Yeah, they still are monsters, but the creativity to write masterpieces like the 2 song in this video is probably gone

@@tiago.8977 you are not hating, you just said the new songs are boring compared to Awake. Why are people in this time always mention the word hating so fast? Yes, James will never sing like the Awake period untill 1994, and Images and Words, Awake and Metropolis part 2 will never be matched. From that 3 Awake is a special one. Through the years Dream Theater is a topband, and i like Midnight Messiah. But it's not the level of these 3 albums.

I had mentioned the similarity in Neal Peart's drumming ... also in the song before ... and Space Dye Vest is very special ... took a time to like this song after all the "noise" before 😆👍

A couple of minutes in to this side and I think I can identify Scarred as my favourite song on the album - maybe the proggiest as it seems to have a dozen good ideas in a short space of time and everyone seems to be on top form. Space-Dye Vest is probably where Moore excels though (I see that he wrote it) with the piano dominating and the interesting samples. This is a nice deviation from the usual DT sound and the album is all the better for it though it maybe should have been in the middle rather than a closer.

SDV is the most atypical DT song and yet it's one of their very best. 😢 I'm still not over Kevin Moore leaving the band. His songwriting and playing complemented Petrucci's in a way Jordan Rudess' does not.

While Images & Words is my favourite album by them my absolute favourite songs are "Space-Dye Vest" with "Lines in the Sand". Kevin Moore's first solo album (Chroma Key - Dead Air for Radios) is like a continuation of this closing track.

Surprised you didn’t care for Scarred.. it’s a tremendous song, certainly not deserving of “a lot of it was just meh…” in my opinion, but to each his own. Enjoyed your reaction to this album overall.

Tbh I’m with Jim on this one. Not poor or filler but Scarred never really floated my boat either, starts quite uniquely then sounds like Duran Duran in the middle but with no real hook. Then the guitar solo which is ok but quite disconnected from the rest of the song, finally we get a drab outro to some decent drumming. Doesn’t hang together for me.
