I am a drummer that started playing in 1965. I have played with many tight bands in the last 50 years. The best bands always had a drummer and bass player worked together almost as two people that were playing one instrument. I spend most of my time lazer focused on the bass player not paying a lot of the other players. A super tight band always has a bass player and drummer that were just not on the same page but on the same word on the paragraph, same line. T

I was Fajar’s band mate back when we were still in the university, we’re still good friends right now although I’m not a professional musician like he is. I remember fondly that his skills was way out our band’s league. I’m glad more and more people recognized him, he deserves more recognition.

A few comments: A) Thank you for posting!!! It’s so nice to be exposed to new musicians that I don’t know. B)Regarding your comment about posting bass player’s on a drum channel, I say bravo. I think drummers would benefit from listening to bass players more than watching people play amazing technical solos on the drums. I’ve been a drummer for over 50 years and Ive spent a lot of time listening to bass players. Please do more in the future. C) I love that the band played superstition, but really made it their own versus trying to do a cover of Stevie Wonder or Stevie Ray Vaughan. D)The riffs you were questioning, were from Cissy Strut by The Meters mixed with Jimi Hendrix. E)Lastly, Fajar is an alien. I hope he’s able to play on a global level. I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.

The name of the group that the bass player was playing that you thought was James Brown was actually called the Metors or Meters , that’s way back in the day. I’m 75 and when that song came out by the Meters I was either in my teens or very early twenties. This group is superb for a trio, all three holds down their part making the song sound full, there’s a bright future for these young musicians. To them I say keep jamming, and best of luck in your future. Also the name of the tune by the Meters is sissy strut.

It made me think how much I miss real funk as a "live" genre. I don't disrespect covers, especially really good covers. But it's hard not to see that the originals keep getting older and organic music like this is much too hard to come by. I don't care what a drum machine can do, and I don't care what AI can write. I taught myself to play guitar and keyboard. Interestingly, when I performed music, I played bass. Throughout my journey as someone learning guitar and playing bass in a band, I often found that the rhythms in my head were actually drum beats. I once had the chance to learn drumming from a drummer I knew (he once said had also studied at Purwacaraka and Farabi music school). He taught me about beats and time signatures, while I, in turn, shared my knowledge of bass with him, even though we never swapped instruments. After we went our separate ways, in subsequent band formations, I found it easier to collaborate with other players, especially drummers. I haven't played music since 2005. Now, I simply enjoy it as a listener. Thank you, KZbin algorithm, for leading me to your channel. Instantly subscribed! ❤

Thank u for showing this clip bro. Thank u. Its been quite a long time that i hadnt watch such beautiful play. I too played superstition in the 70s but this trio performance is way way up mesmerising n im fixated to it while driving on a hectic day. It really subdued me. Im a amateur bassist n drummer too retired long time ago and i can never play like this. Refreshing and captivating. Thank u

If you haven’t checked out Vincen Garcia, definitely go do that now. Probably one of the baddest funkiest dudes out there on bass right now.

Joe Dart is another one you can't miss. His Music Man signature bass is one of the most sought after bass. The cheaper(affordable) version Sterling basses are Indonesian made and all are SOLD OUT.

The drummer's name is Bowie Champa. He is the co-founder of Nguber Drummer, along with Yandi. The bassist, Fajar, also plays with Yoiqball. Together, they formed a session band called Fiery. You might want to check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4mnpGxoidBgnbs

thanks for the info bro...are you related to Fajar??? I just noticed your Profile Name now LOL!!!

@DrumRoast Nah, I’m not. In Javanese culture, most people don’t have family names. However, some names like 'Adi Nugroho' are quite common and mean 'brings grace'.

1:16 bro is describing the bromance between a bass and drums.😂 the flirty glances they shoot each other. The inside jokes only they are in on… it’s an unspoken love. I’m a bassist learning drums these days to honor the passing of my drum Danny. He was the best and my heart will never be the same. There’s a drum shaped hole in my life and I fill it with more drums 🪘.
