Semaan /istening to al qur'an is a tradition of reading and listening to the recitation of the Qur'an among the NU community and pesantren in general. The word 'semaan' comes from the Arabic sami'a-yasma'u, which means to hear. The word is absorbed into Indonesian into "simaan" or "listen", and in Javanese it is called "semaan". In its use, this word is not applied in general according to the origin of its meaning, but is used specifically for a certain activity of the students or the general public who read and listen to the chanting of the holy verses of the Qur'an. Not just reading and hearing the Qur'an, the use of the word semaan is currently strictly pinned to a number of people who read and memorize the Qur'an by memorizing it. In this sense, semaan can be used as a method of memorizing the Qur'an, which is usually a gathering of at least two people, or it could be more, one of whom reads the Qur'an without looking at the text of the verse while others hear and listen to it. Listeners are very useful in this method of memorization, because he/she can make corrections or justify if the reciter of the Qur'an reads it wrong. There is also an understanding that semaan is an activity of reading and listening to the Qur'an in congregation or together, in which in addition to listening to the Qur'an, those present sami'inalso perform worship together. obligatory prayers in congregation as well as other sunnah prayers, from dawn to khatamnya Al-Qur'an. Judging from its historical roots, the meaning of the Qur'an cannot be separated from its originator, KH Chamim Djazuli or who can be known as Gus Miek. Gus Miek is a central figure in the Al-Qur'an whose followers are thousands of people. Gus Miek leads the Semaan Assembly, which was first established in the village of Burengan, Kediri around 1986. At first, his followers were only 10-15 people, but it continued to grow into thousands. The place is not only in mosques or from house to house, but has entered the district pavilion area, Kodam even to the Yogyakarta Palace. Gus Miek who has a "habit" of traveling to several areas, the idea of ​​​​embracing the Qur'an arose. The famous phrase of Gus Miek, “I want to be right and not be wrong too much, so I took a cross step by encouraging the students to gather once a month, chatting, relaxing jokes, accompanied by entertainment. Be grateful if the entertainment smells of worship that touches the grace and favor of Allah. Incidentally, I found a rule that such a meeting if accompanied by reading and listening to the Qur'an, gratefully, from the beginning to completion, Allah will give His grace and favors. " So according to Gus Miek, spiritually all the Qur'an is good entertainment hasanah. Besides that, it is also an effort to approach yourself to Allah, and as a savings in the last days.
