You already know how I feel about this masterpiece...the album "Rage For Order" , which precedes this one is a must. My 2 favorite Queensryche albums . You know I love Iron Maiden ( the first 5 especially)... Queensryche was on par for me in the 80s......Geoff Tate live , was a force of nature. Nobody touched him , nobody. We were gobsmacked at how good he was live. The Vocal coach reaction channels still react to Geoff even now.

Totally agree about "Rage!" There would not have been a "Mindcrime" without "Rage for Order."

I actually prefer the Warning over Rage, but I think both should be reacted to.

"Rage For Order" was my introduction to Queensryche. I had just been stationed to Kadena Air Base on Okinawa in Autumn 1986 when I heard the song "Walk In The Shadows" start playing down the hall. I was like, "Who is this? I have to have it immediately!" "Operation: Mindcrime" straight up rocks, but "Rage For Order" has a unique sound that still separates it from everything else. I suppose you can say Queensryche and Iron Maiden both have at least one thing in common. They both have members that became professionally licensed pilots.

I dabbled in Queensryche in id say 86, 87. I had Warnig, Rage for Order, then this came out in 88. This is my favorite album ever! It pulled me in! Funny, I was at The Heath in England and this would be blasting in the dorm all the time. Actually got to see them for the first time there in 91 with monsters of rock.

The operation livecrime concert film is well worth checking out. The album does such a great job of telling it's story. It's pretty much a rock opera. Each track tells a chapter in a pretty straightforward way. But they are bangers in their own right. Masterful stuff.

It's great that you are feeling the album now. If you give in to the story, it will suck you in. Then, there's the amazing music, and crunchy guitars, and shimmering clean gtrs, and growling bass... This was Queensryche at their best.

It came out May 3, 1988. I remember at night, after work, I'd "set the mood", turn out the lights (most), put on the headphones and cranked this up! Such an incredible album! It is a crying shame that they could never find the "magic" they created on this album again...despite trying.

You can see why this is always up there when it comes to being one of greatest concept albums all time! And I can remember Steve Harris saying that when he heard it on its release back in 1988, 'now this is what a concept album should be like' He absolutely loved it and raved about the band at every opportunity! No wonder!

Bands like Crimson Glory and Helloween existed in a similar sort of space around the same time, pushing on from what Iron Maiden had been doing. Kerrang did have a collective noun for them, but I can't recall what it was.

Operation Mindcrime is in my DNA literally. Tate and Chris and the band went all in on this album and it shows. One of the few band since there start play and sing there's song flawlessly night in night out note for note 200+ shows a year. Geoff's range is incredible and his early professional voice training shines to get to an E-5 so easily threw his chest register control and flawless exercising tone and pitch resonance. Wow.

So glad youre getting into this incredible album again. I've listened to it (and their other songs) so much, they have become part of my DNA! I could break down each band member's contributions to the music, but it might take up too much space. Sufficeth to say in my opinion they are the finest band on the planet! Looking forward to part 3!

Operation:Mindcrime is the album that broke them into the mainstream. But it is the least progressive of their early albums. The Warning and especially Rage for order, are the records that shaped the scene for bands like Dream Theater. And lets not forget the first four albums from Fates Warning. I would rank them as equal to Queensryche, for creating this new genre.

Hmmm shall think I shall be getting one of their stuff. Maybe I have not had my head into other stuff. And what with trying to get my old dead ones with new. This one might well be on the list. But these guys seem good, but the singer is very Iron Maiden IMHO. OR if these giys came first then Maidens Dickenson sounds like them. But certainly may invest in an album and make up my own mind. Hmmmmm.

Oh, you won't be disappointed! I am a HUGE Queensryche fan (original lineup) and I have to say, in 30+ years of listening to their songs, I never get tired of them, and they always sound fresh! They have the gift of bringing the emotion and intensity of a live performance into their studio work. Always great!! The more I listen to them, the more I appreciate just how spectacular they are!

Maiden were up to Seventh Son by the time this was released, so definitely Queensryche being influenced by Maiden though this was the predominate metal sound of the eighties, I reckon.

SAVIOUR Machine, self-titled album is an epic experience to listen to. I place it up there with this album. I’m looking for other concept albums that are experiences to hear in the vain of O:Mindcrime. Any suggestions?

It's a toss up between this and Dream Theater's "Scenes From a Memory", for the greatest metal concept album. I think DT has the edge with the story, it's such genius when you completely understand everything that is happening. Fates Warning's "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" is another one, although I've never taken the time to understand the story in that one. Then of course there are Ayreon and Avantasia, who do nothign BUT concept albums, who are worth checking out. Ayreon is probably more up your alley since they are more prog, and Avantasia is more power metal.
