And that is the way the song should be thought of, what it does to the heart, the soul, and the devotion to your true love. This song was first sung by Lionel Richie & I used to dream that someday, some how, someone would think of me that way. Then Kenny re-made it and those feelings came back. At least I know there are those out there that have experienced, cherished, and respected those once in a lifetime loves. Thank you so much for sharing. You and your parents are so very blessed.

Now you must watch the version of Kenny & Lionel doing it together in Las Vegas, at MGM Grand, in 2012, a few years before Kenny passed. Lionel was being honored and Kenny told the story of this song & the love & 30 year friendship between them is such a beautiful thing to see. Then they do it together. Makes me cry no matter how many times I see it. 'Old Kenny' still was amazing. Lionel also recorded this beauty. Kenny sings another love song like this called 'through the years' & is perfect for couples. Another beauty. (And that last note got the ladies! LOL)

When our daughter was born on 1980, Lady was the #1 hit. At that moment, my husband decided that if the baby was a girl this would be the song he would dance with her at her wedding. Fast forward to July of 2006 and the father daughter dance was to Lady. He was so thrilled to dance to this amazing song with his lil Lady at her wedding.

What amazes me is no one remembers his band, The First Edition. LOL My husband and I were together a little over 34 years. He sang this to me (and a John Lennon song that was on the tip of my brain until I started writing...Woman!). We didn’t have enough time together. I have people who come to see me because of medical issues. Every one of them say I should clear off what was his side of the bed. When I explain I leave it with laptops and blankets and clothes because even now, four years after his very unexpected death, I would turn to that side of the bed to hold him. It takes days to get over the fact he's not there and never will be again. Thank you for the sweet memories you brought me of my beloved'.

I think at least for me, we were exposed to many types of music back in the 70's, R&B, Motown, Heavy Metal, Pop, Disco, Country, etc. Kenny started out as Rock and Roll, I saw him in concert as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. He was in a buckskin outfit and his hair was long and thought he was gorg. Mom had taken myself and a few of my friends to his concert and I said to her, isn't he handsome? She was not impressed. Little did she know how really handsome he become and that even though his music was country, most of the time it went mainstream to all. That growl in his voice is something he was known for. RIP Kenny.

Kenny Rogers ... what a voice. I think his appeal was that he was an everyman with an incredible voice who became a star but never changed from being the everyman. He was, by all accounts a wonderful person. He was a presence as i grew up that i took for granted being so young. He was amazing. I also think his appeal lay in that he was a man, masculine, and had a strong confident presence. He was not vulgar or racy, and comported himself like a gentleman. A confident masculine gentleman whose public persona seemed to match his actual personality. No gimickry, no double life, no compromise with the underside of the music industry and a steadiness of character that apoeals to all. He was never smutty. He was a star because of that. Too many artists today lack those characteristics. They use shock value ro get notiriety from degrading themselves and devaluing and dehumanizing their audience. They want instant success and will do whatever, say whatever, sing whatever to get that instant status and they don't realize the trash they promote to do it. They compromise their characters as people. Kenny, like most genuine artists paid his dues, did the hard work over a long time, but never compromised his values and character for stardom. There was a level to which he would not descend for fame. Thus his character was not tarnished with controversy, base vulgarity, or compromise with immortality. Sadly these are qualities lacking in entertainment today, they are qualities our debased and vulgar society actually SHUNS! When we reject immorality, crassness, rudeness, and vulgarity, as a society, and when we reject the juvenilization of our culture and again set high standards of decency, public decorum, and carry ourselves with dignity and grace and show the value of our Christian virtues and stop supporting those who promote values opposite ours, then we can affect the tide of public behavior and shame those who would dehumanize with their movies, music, art and literature. If we shun base vulgarity and shallow vanity, and esteem moral decency, class, dignity and Biblical manhood and womanhood, then we'll see people like Kenny Rogers in entertainment again. People who embrace values that improve society rather than than disgusting, vulgar, immature, perverted trash that is all too common today. We contribute to the trash when we buy their albums, watch their movies, buy their art and read their trash and watch their videos and go to their concerts ( etc.). When we use our money to impovetish immorality and use it to support and bolster decency, then the entertainment industry will have to comply with our values or go bankrupt! The problem is too many people will proclaim high values but in private support base vulgarity and trash. I am not that way. I refuse to support the entertainment industry and their performers when they promote anything other than the values i have. I miss out on a lot of new things, but i am in no way negatively impacted. In fact I'm preventing our dehumanizing culture from devaluing me as a person and my family is kept from the trash of this world ad they hold fast to all that's good, kind, decent, morally upright, and to all that gives humanity its affirmation. We CAN imoact society for the better, but good people have to stop supporting the smutty trash and irreverant debased rot of this world and its disgusting perversions. Virtuous people have to stop dancing with the devil and exposing their souls to his rot!
