It's kind of comforting to watch someone else have a mental breakdown upon hearing "One at a Time" for the first time. I'm not alone.

Another great discover video. I'd highly recommend checking out Funeral by Arcade Fire as it's quite an interesting but masterful album.

For the first time!?! WHAT!? AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I am a MASSIVE Unknown Mortal Orchestra fan. Probably the biggest fan in Texas. What a beautiful way to spend my morning after 4 hours of sleep (which is the whole premise of II - Ruban not getting enough sleep and feeling depressed after the success of his first album + tour). Also, it's great because they are also how I found you, Mercurial No. 6. ;) Cheers! >>> Please consider Kody Nielson's "Birthday Suite" (since you like UMO's drumming - that is Ruban's brother). My thoughts and commentary: 8:04 - Ruban is an illustrator so that sleeve makes sense to me. 9:10 - The music video of Swim and Sleep makes me laugh. 11:54 - So Good at Being in Trouble is the very first song I ever heard of UMO that made me fall in love with them. I ugly cried when I saw them perform this. The music video is of a young man looking for his sister who ran off to be in a Charles Manson cult. 15:40 - "one at a tiiiiiiiiimmmmmmeeeeeeeee" :) 20:06 - Don't we all kind of do that already? It's called dust and body odor and whatnot... 22:20 - Perfect music transition to your parallel universes for fish discussion. LOL 23:47 - Unless I know my friends can tolerate slow-burning psychedelic fuzz rock, that is why I start people off with their Multi-Love album. I think you did yourself a disservice by doing Multi-Love, Sex & Food first and then II. 28:45 - Two fish-related bands off the top of my head include Phish & Hootie and the Blowfish. lol 30:50 - .... Did you just say Captain Beefheart Trout Mask Replica? LOL!! That would be the ultimate band to listen to in a parallel universe. 39:36 - Fun Fact: Ruban was doing a late night recording of "Faded in the Morning" and his son, Moebius (Moe) came down to his basement and snuck peeks. He giggled and Ruban caught him. He invited him down and began playing with him and recorded him giggling. He was so charmed by it that he added it to this song. 43:59 - best part of this song... that bass is delicious

How many great episodes can you possibly make?!?!?
@TheEmpyrean155 жыл бұрын
Listen to UMO's debut self-titled album. Probably Ruban's most unique and best album. He also recorded it completely by himself, without any help.
@mercurialno65 жыл бұрын
Is it heavier than II?
@TheEmpyrean155 жыл бұрын
@@mercurialno6 It's more upbeat, catchy and based around loops/repetition, so I'd say yes. Ruban was very focused on it sounding like a mysterious lost record from the 60s or 70s, so it sounds even more retro, raw and lo-fi than II. For some reason, I always thought that it's incredibly similar to John Frusciante's To Record Only Water For Ten Days. Very different stylistically, but somehow shares the exact same vibe.

Another brilliant review Mercurial - I was scrolling through your list and was looking forward to watching ACDC’s Highway to Hell (named after the Fremantle run between two pubs on Saturday nights) - anyway IT WAS BLOCKED HERE IN AUSTRALIA. I know they are a little protective of their music - but is there anything you could do? Also can I recommend you listen to WOLFMOTHER (2005). They were on the same lab,e as Tame Impala for a while (Modular).
