It's been a year since you listened to An Hour Before It is Dark. Is it still your fav Marillion album? Have you actually listened to it since the review?

Oh... Relistening I just realised I never said thanks @JimNewstead. Such a wonderful reaction! ❤ Listened to this album hundreds of times and I can still never get enough. Just like with the great prog classics if the 70's.

The whole album was fairly good but the fact you mention so many bands at the end confirms that they are all sounds that we have heard before and there was nothing idiosyncratic about it. Not bad but not a purchase.

You're right of course that they wore inspirations on their sleeves on this debute. But two things about them stands out to me. 1. Which other band would perfectly merge stuff reminiscent of e.g.Tool and The Mars Volta? 2. They still add their own unique sound. Besides that, I immensely love their emotional, beautiful and exciting melodies, atmospheres and arrangements as well as Jimmy's gorgeous vocals. But that's all a matter of taste of course.
