We’ve cancelled Netflix, AppleTv, Prime, and SiriusXM. Grocery shopping will no longer be done at Walmart and plans for a US vacation have been cancelled. Shopping for building materials will no longer be done at American-owned stores, such as Home Depot and Rona. So, just me and my wife are redirecting $20,000 to $30,000 of our spending from American-owned businesses to Canadian-owned businesses.

We have done the same thing exactly & when shopping in Canadian owned stores we still check for any US made products & will Not buy them unless they are made in California but that only until the tarifs kick in-:( We will no longer support Amazon either as most products sold on Amazon can be purchased on Etsy, Alibaba or Temu. They may tske awhile longer to arrive but that is a price we are willing to pay. The Ukraine has lots of underground factories & shops selling via Etsy & we support them wherever possible-:)

We have also divested ourselves of all American Stocks & my hubby has just paid 30K to rescend his US citizenship as hes lived in Canada since he was 5 years old & has been too embarassed for years to let anyone know he was US born. As well we had to say goodluck to his elderly parents as they became brainwashed worshipers of the orange stain and as such we can no longer respect them. We will not set foot in the US or fly over US Airspace while politics remain as they are. Will not risk it!

As a Brit ...... The UK has proved itself to be a reliable Ally without giving up our sovereignty. In my view JEF or an updated version of it is the way forward for European security. The French and Germans will not join until they have too because it is a UK initiative. Most people have forgotten that Trudeau led leaders in the fight against Covid19. He was the first to hunker down wearing masks & reducing personal contacts at work while urging Canadians to do the same. At the same time, Trump was denying the risks of covid while dreaming up silly solutions to the covid problem. The result was Canada lost 55,000 people to covid while USA lost 1.5 million - about twice the Canadian rate per capita. Not only that; but, also countless Americans went broke when their lack of health coverage bankrupted them. That never happened in Canada. Trudeau has actually been a pretty good PM!

Additionally, our different levels of government are planning trades with the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia, New Zealand. WE are buying products from Mexico. That’s why I voted Reform UK to help put Nigel Farage in government at the next election but because of Labour and the Conservatives dominate frontline politics in the UK, when people like me voted Reform UK, we put Labour in government. Don’t give up on the commonwealth and just remember the UK is in a stranglehold from this dictatorship government, so for now we can’t do much until the next election comes round.

It's a bit sad... but it's true. It's how we mainly define what it is to be a Canadian - "We're not Americans". And given that, it stands to reason that most of us do not want to become Americans.

As for who wrote those lines, it started out as a poem ("Ô Canada”) in French by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier which was put to music composed by a man named Calixa Lavallée in 1880. The English version was written by a man named Robert Stanley Weir 1908.
