If you told us in 2018 that the rebels would back Bashar into a corner, nobody would believe it since Bashar had seemingly won the war. The fact that Bashar’s troops collapsed within a week of rebel irregulars’ offensive is flabbergasting. Iran has probably never thought that greenlighting Hamas’ October 7 massacre would lead to the collapse of its entire regional proxy network.

This is Five-Star interview. The West had been involved in propping up the Assad regime over decades, if not as enthusiastically as Russia and Iran. Hopefully, the various parties to the overthrow of Assad are sufficiently enlightened to accept they are granted government in Syria as a collaborative process, with regard to all ethnic and cultural groups. They have some prospect of prospering through piping gas to Turkey. My hope is that the Russian Naval fleet will be contained forever in the Mediterranean, unrealistic as this hope may be. Russia should not be viewed as a force for global stability and humane government. It should be up to the Syrians as to whether they or Turkiye occupy the Russian naval bases. If nowhere in North Africa will accommodate the Russian Mediterranean fleet, perhaps Iran or North Korea might. 🤪
