Also putin cannot agree a front line freeze while ukraine occupies parts of russia territory. politically that would be a disaster for putin. However if trump listens to his advisors and go all in on oil sanctions, putin may have no choice but to negotiate, if this plays out, Putin is finished.

They cant keep doing this forever, without such interventions the ruble would likely be trading around 130 to the dollar at best, its now held artificially low. The exchange rate movements dont tell the full story.
