I totally understand what the former officer is saying. But once the individual is on the floor and under control anything after that will be viewed as excessive. The explanation that the officer's adrenalin was up and pumping is not going to cut it in a IOC investigation or among senior officers, because the expectation is officers must demonstrate a superior level of self control in provocative situations and the fact his female colleague just got punched in the face counts for nought in policing.
