Chinese have been fighting in Ukraine since the early stages of the war, many of them documenting their experiences on video, and China has been supplying Russia with drones and other military equipment aswell. Now, officially those Chinese fighters are just mercenaries and volunteers which aren't acting in any official capacity, and the Chinese military equipment provided to Russia was bought from private Chinese companies by the Russian government. All of this serves to provide China with plausible deniability in its support for Russia's war against Ukraine. But those Chinese fighters in Ukraine being volunteers as opposed to state actors is very doubtful, and China's corporatist structure blurs the lines between public and private sector, privately-owned companies being regulated by the state and major ones being required to have communist party officials on their boards for supervisory and regulatory purposes. They are effectively state-controlled. Any major sales of military equipment to Russia by private companies would have to have been approved by the Chinese government.
