How do you remove the gear?

First you will want to remove the blade. Next you have to remove the head from the clipper by removing the front top housing screw, along with the wire clip that is in the bottom of the housing below the head which will slide off. You then need to put a wrench on the crank spindle cover kit (eccentric bearing in the front that moves the blade). You'll see the backside of the gear on the opposite end of the head that you can put a socket on to unthread the two from each other. You then need to either use a press or a punch and hammer to gently tap/push the shaft back through the bearings toward the white gear. That removes it! Reverse these steps to reinstall a new gear.

I get a lot of the Star models but have not seen this model. Most of the time the gear is stripped out or circuit breaker is a dud. I have found out over the years it is not a bad gear but like the Clipmaster Yokes that break. It is operator headspace. The put up clippers with wet blades, no oil, or no oil and may hang in the barn till the following rear. And blades are then rusted together and Bam the gear strips or yoke breaks.
