One of the best performances I have ever heard of Liszt's Spanish Rhapsody!! He plays it with both flare AND some of the nicest musical inflections. Not too fast, not too slow. Brilliant.

One of the great champions of the Spanish Rhapsody - though Berman has many haters, no objective music lover can deny the great warmth and large projection. He should not be blamed for the Russians' lousy record engineers who often could not handle his explosive playing (nor Richter's or Gilels' for that matter).

By far the best interpretation/performance of this piece I've ever heard. Technically brilliant, of course, but it's much more than that. There's something magical about Berman's playing that defies description, especially in the way he makes highly virtuoistic pieces like this sound so, well...musical.

I have a large box set of his Russian recordings, I'll take a look to see if the 1950 version of the Scriabin is on it...

I beg to differ...The BEST interpretation of this piece I have ever heard was in 1972 by Dr. Barbara Allen Crockett, Cal State University (then College) at Long Beach.
