Romilla is an interpreter of ancient historical and archaeological data researched or unearthed by experts who are fluent in the ancient languages in which the data are recorded who then translate their findings in English. Thereafter, interpreters of this data rendered in English analyse the data and arrive at trends, conclusions and speculations. Prof Thapar does not know ancient languages like Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit etc.

Romila Thapar knows Sanskrit. She has worked on the Social, Economic and Literary histories of Ancient India. It is impossible to publish in these fields without a working knowledge of Sanskrit. She is not however a Sanskritist. A Sanskritist is someone who is interested in the translation and detailed interpretation of Sanskrit texts. That requires a linguistic training. Thapar is a historian, not a linguist. Pick up any book that she’s written, take a look at the footnotes and end notes. All primary information is noted there.

Dude what ever this old lady is blabbering about But please can someone tell her GENRE is pronounced as - ˈʒɒ̃rə,ˈ(d)ʒɒnrə/, it is really irritating when she pronounces it as 'JHAANERA' , she is overdoing the British accent with visualize as well - vɪʒ(j)ʊəlʌɪz,ˈvɪzjʊəlʌɪz/, though Genre is a French word cultivated into English! And she is always against Hindu-nationalism but she claims all Indian history comes from Hinduism Veda, itahasa, Ramayana and of all sorts - Fantastic!
