DELETING the GAS TANK on a Jeep Wrangler JL!

After breaking the factory 4:1 transfer case on our Jeep Wrangler JLUR, we’ve decided it’s the perfect excuse for a total Jeep rebuild. So we’re swapping from the 3-link rear suspension to a triangulated 4-link, which means…we have to completely delete the factory gas tank and install a relocated Motobilt fuel tank instead! Easy enough…until we get sidetracked by all the additional damage and surprises our Jeep has!

For anyone else that does this kit in the future, I used the Diablo brand oscillating tool adhesive scrapers to remove that rear tray (found them at Home Depot). Took 10 minutes with minimal mess. I also had issues with the push to connect fittings Motobilt supplied, so I switched to AN line as well. I used Vibrant Performance Fuel Adapter Fittings 16921 for the fuel pump to AN line, and Russell Fuel Rail Fitting Adapters 640940 to go from AN line to the stock fuel line "quick disconnect." Final comment, I *think* the stock JL fuel pump evap fitting is a SAE J2044 QD connector. I have not confirmed that, but it seems to be close.

There’s no future for bec on the channel. She was an apprentice, has taken what she’s learned and now has a good paying job. We’re no longer taking in any builds so there’s no way for her to make money. We will be focusing on our own personal builds which was always the original plan. We had to take customer builds in so she could get paid and during that time ALL of our vehicles got neglected and that’s not acceptable. So we went back to the original plan of just having chris as our friend and personal fabricator. Bec was never in the plans and we tried to adapt to make it work with 2 people but that’s didn’t end up working out so now back to the original plan. Bec had 4-6 months notice of this change and that time has now come and gone.

Hey Chris, remember the first time working on a non-NY vehicle!! It was almost as pleasant as an orgasm!! Lmao.. not having to replace all bleeders on the calipers, or replacing all the fuel/brake lines everytime you had to work on something. My first time was replacing rotors and pads.. i had the grinder, the drill/tap set and then.... everything broke loose and worked as it should!!!! It was amazing. I sold all the vehicle's i bought down and bought new/used southern vehicles.. never again will i buy a rust bucket. Ppl ask me why i crawl below every vehicle i look at.. i was shocked they said they never have before and never thought to look under the vehicle!!! 😂😂 oh how the times have changed from having to bondo the rockers, fenders and all that, or if you were broke like me, zip tied and tuct taped everything after filling it with Great Stuff to keep the form!! Lmao

I enjoy all of your builds and videos. I would like to give a shout out to my good friend Tony Pellegrino of GenRight who came up with the concept of putting aluminum gas tanks in our Jeeps. He started out in 2006 and built the first tanks that would allow you to go to about a 100 inch wheel base on your YJ and TJs. These tanks included a cut in the tanks for the rear end to fit. This was the start of his very successful company. So many companies have followed with his designs. By the way, I do not think that is bad.

This tank works great on the diesel as well. The fittings that Motobilt supplies don’t work. You can order more fuel line and actually use all the factory fittings. They are push in style fittings. Takes some force but doable. I cut the tray out leaving the glued in edge. Then came back with a thin scraper that I heated up and melted to glue to remove the remaining plastic lip. That glue is no joke!

I'd love to do this also but unfortunately my DEF tank already sits there. I know I could delete it but don't like the idea of being the guy blowing black smoke everywhere. I don't think you'll have any issues hitting that fuel tank. I have the Next Venture DEF skid with UHMW and it barely has any marks on it. Are you sure you want to go with a 6.75" ram?
