So they do have an english version of the song but interestingly like a couple songs in the Carolus rex album its actually completely different. The english version covers more of a broad scope of the war and its cost instead of the Swedish song which has a more personal level to it covering a soldier specifically in the war who lost their life in the thirty years war. A really cool example is the song 1648 which is great by the way I'd totally recommend listening to it. The English version is all about the defenders of Prague holding off the Swedish army in the closing days of the war. The Swedes deciding to make one last campaign to acquire spoils of war and strengthen their position at the negotiating table during the peace talks. The people of Prague knowing that the Swedes would loot and pillage the city as was common at the time the citzens of Prague rose up to defend their home against the Swedes. Meanwhile flipping over to the Swedish version and its actually from the Swedish perspective and it does not pull any punches. It makes the Swedish intentions very clear and doesn't try to cover up what they were doing. Its honestly really great getting to see both sides depending on the language you listen to.
@itsCVSE4 жыл бұрын
Gonna definitely do the English version!
@gralmakaren99194 жыл бұрын
this song is about the 30 year war, a lifetime in war referrs to the fact someone vould be born, grow up and die during the war. The swedish version is from the perspective of a young soldier being called out to battle and the english version is from the perspective of a general observer, commenting on the hardships caused by this war.

Fun fact about this performance: When Sabaton has tours like The Great Tour and have shows in both Gothenburg and Stockholm they have a "sing along" competitions between the 2 towns with this song. I think that me and everyone else here in Gothenburg destroyed our voices right at this moment by screaming the song with all our power to win over Stockholm! As a Swede, It's so awesome watching you 'foreigners' :P react to this in swedish - and obviously enjoying it. I will say though, that the subtitles are a bit off.. I don't know if they are made by some automatic caption-thingie.. But it's far from perfect. And yes, there IS an English version of the song, but it's slightly different, i guess in order to make the words 'fit'. The Swedish version is more from a specific soldiers perspective, whilst the English is more.. 'soldiers in general'. (Not a great attempt at explaining..but there it is.) Great reaction - Keep it up!

Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use brilliantly crafted music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. There are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen.

Unfortunately the lyrics are written very weird. They relay the message but they are written in wrong order..... Three examples Song: "Gick ut i krig för Sverige, blev döpt i blod" Video: "He went outside for Sweden, was baptized in blood". Correction: "Went out to war for Sweden, got baptized in blood" Song: "För kriget det kan, förgöra en man" Video: "Because of the war, destroy a man" Correction: "Because the war it can, destroy a man" Song: "I fältet fränder faller, hörs ingen sång" Video: "No songs are heard in the fields where the kinsmen fall" Correction: "In the field friends fall, no songs are heard" The lyrics in the song is typical song lyrics, not always written how one would speak.

Song: "I fältet fränder faller, hörs ingen sång" Correction: "In the field friends fall, no songs are heard" This is incorrect, fränder actually means kinsmen. Modern Swedes may use it to refer to friends but it litteraly means kinsmen. I see Swedes make this misstake in the comments all the time so there is clearly some extra homework required, but if you translate Fränder to Friends you are failing your university admittance exams or "högskoleprovet" as its called. You may refer to close friends as fränder, but that is honorific as Fränder it is the traditional swedish word for kinsmen. We have a word for friends that's: vänner.

So see me as the one A husband a friend Father and son never comes home again But who mourn me? Went into battle for fatherland/motherland/homeland was baptized in blood Out there awaits death not heroism In fields where kinsmen fall no song is heard Challenge our fates again far from home Be baptized and die in battle And the world burned because the war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my country But who miss me So see me as the one A husband a friend Father and son never comes home But who mourn me And when my time has run out Who cares then They struggle on Can a soldier achieve a dignified end Get to sleep fade out And never wake again

Why you haven't seen this sort of facing-the-audience shot before: it's because most huge band productions use automated camera systems (cranes, drones, sliders). Here you have a guy with a camera - and you know it's a person-operated because when they start moving around and he/she goes up to the drummer's podium, you can literally see the small up and downs of that person walking the steps. It's ballsy and very creative... but I think by now you know to expect just that from these guys ;)

I look around and see my home fade away. My time at my home now seems way to short. Only a youth barely a man, when duty called upon me. If i ever get to se my home again that i do not know. Among kinsmen from my village i went out to do war. And the world was aflame. Beacause the war can destroy a man I give my life for my motherland But who mourns for me? Went out to battle/fight for Sweden was baptized in blood. Out there death awaits not heroism. In fields where kinsmen fall no songs are heard! Challenging our destiny one more time! Far away from home baptized and death in battle And the world was aflame. Because the war it can destroy a man i give my life for my motherland but who mourns for me? And when my time is up who cares then? they fight on! Can a soldier get a worthy end!? Get to fall asleep and never wake up! Because the war it can destroy a man i give my life for my motherland but who mourns for me? This is as litteral as i can do it. Makes for a terrible song but the meaning is as clear as I can make it taking the specific swedish words in to consideration. I see people refer to Fränder as friends, this is not to do justice to the original meaning of the swedish words used in the text, or its a misunderstanding comming from how the term is sometimes used today. Sabaton would have used vänner if they ment friends, they used fränder which is almost arcaic in modern swedish, were by the confusion. Sabaton refer to the Swedes of the 1600s who lived and died among there relatives working the fields and living in villages, they were "kinsmen" Swedes today are mostly urban and we move around alot both natives and immigrants. They werent urban, they lived whit there relatives among related people. Its things like this that gets lost in translation and make it kinda impossible to do a Swedish song in English. And why its worth really paying attention to the lyrics both in English and Swedish.
