Great video as always, I love this system so much i just need to get more people to try it. Also I wasn’t expecting to look at your Kofi members and see Pilestedt there. He made custom army rules for Tyranids, Orks and Eldar as well as adding a psychic system. They have been a ton of fun to add to games and have inspired me to make a ton of my own factions.

Scenery seems to be very important to the game; Vanguard Miniatures makes some nice looking plastic kit for terrain at that scale, and for a reasonable price.

I hope LI continues to grow. GW seems intent on supporting it for the near future with a lot of releases. I think the staggered, delayed original roll-out did hurt its momentum. But it always feels like anyone who does play LI really really likes it, despite its rough edges. It just needs a modest rules pass to tidy up. There's really nothing like having "full size" Warhammer armies on a table. Besides what you've said here, it's important for new people to understand there is a bit of a divide right now between opinions on competitive vs "narrative" play for this game. Basically "competitive" is seen as very wonky. There are a lot of non-flavorful, non-fluffy army builds that amount to like, flooding the board with infantry with missile launchers. This may work functionally but it doesn't look or play in an interesting or atmospheric way. It also leads people to presume you must by sixty boxes of infantry to make an army. What Legions Imperialis seems to "want" you to do, is construct armies that make more sense as a narrative. How battles in the Horus Heresy are portrayed. You don't need a truckload of identical infantry boxes because there are supposed to be Titans on the field which count for a ton of points. And lots of tanks - armored companies also add up to a ton of points in the game. If you approach building an army more like creating a thematic scene the game isn't quite as expensive to get into as it seems.

Agreed! I feel just fine having bought fpur boxes worth of marines. Not that I w ont be buying more, but I dont feel like I really have to to have fun or be able to play. Love to paint and see them on the table though.😊

Lots of GW games seem to have drifted to competitive balance, in my opinion to the detriment. The narrative type play reminds me very much of some of the historical wargaming I have seen. I definitely think building balanced and considered formations seems fairly achievable without breaking the bank

I like the 1+ save. For now it seems like enough to add a lot of dynamic choice when it comes to weapons versus Titans. I would love to see Titan weapons also have point values, or at least something to balance the use of conversion beams the way Titanicus does - aside from merely the real life cost of the special order part.

Or you simply play Epic Armageddon, the previous version, which has an excellent ruleset, good game balance, genuinely involving tactical play style and thanks to the Epic UK group, a full tournament scene with an event most months up and down the UK to help you find other players. You can even use the LImp models to play a much much better game. Excellent game balance, and the rules are free! And you can play as Eldar, Orks, and all the other fun factions from 40K.

I have 2 2k points armies and around 1000 points painted for each - just a few days ago I finally caved in and bought a 6x4 mat and a table in the same size. I love the look of the game and I will give test games to all my friends to see if anyone likes it. If they do, great - your only investment is time because I'm doing all the painting anyway :D

Having used bigger Titans in both games I've played (Reaver in the first, Warlord in the second) Titans are fine as they are. My Warlord took 3 turns of half my opponent's army shooting at it to drop it to 2 wounds, by which time most of what was attacking it was dead.

Great video, and some interesting house ruke ideas, with titans we just don't bother including them in the points and do a "if you have 1, I have 1" rule, even in 4000pt game they just aren't worth the bother or the points, knights are much the same, don't get me wrong a Reaver is still pretty scary but for the same points you get a lot of tanks....

Checkout Epic Armageddon too (the previous 4th edition of Epic). It’s a FAR better rules system than Legions and a well balanced tournament game with community rebalanced lists rather than the erratically balanced Legions units. 40k setting too so can play Dark Eldar, Sisters of Battle, Squats, etc. Still a healthy tournament scene for the game in the UK and France with regular tournaments around. You can use Legions models to play EA fine too (with some counts as to represent units not in the 40k era EA list e.g. these Sicarans count as Predators). Rules and army lists are free pdfs online so you can check out the game for free. Epic UK are the organisation that run the UK tournament scene and their site has the rules and lists you can download.

This, along with Warmaster are visually stunning and you can really go to town painting them up, or just go for a basic, decent job. I’ve gone ‘all in’ and funded it by selling off all my bigger scale Warhammer armies (which I’d stopped playing with).

Overall a good rundown of getting into the game. There's fanmade rules out there for some Xenos factions too (I'm running Eldar at the moment) so for people who are looking for something a little less Imperium flavoured and have friends who are happy to test out unofficial rules its another option.

The hype has died down because the game isn't actually all that much to write home about, for one. They should have gone with Epic Armageddon as a base for the rules instead of 2nd Ed. Also, the change in scale had them immediately pushing away a lot of the old community that kept the game system alive single-handedly since 2009, regardless of any statements about being able to mix and match the models. This is a very informative video, though! Thank you so much. Also, love the puppies! :D
@add3to63 күн бұрын
It's so predictably infuriating for GW to resurrect an IP and duly kneecap it instantly. You had a niche audience of small scale aficionados and proceeded to alienate a large chunk of them instantly by setting yet another game in the Horus Heresy. Then there was the vague starter set with two sort-of armies. The massive price tag for tiny miniatures. Zero appeal to Xenos fans (no Gargants or Phantoms?). Finally, the warping of the infantry models is just unforgivable. If you want to charge a premium, you better supply something spectacular. If that's not possible, change the poses or the material, because nobody wants marines that look like a graphical glitch. Hugely disappointing.
@boardinbrum59123 күн бұрын
I understand the feelings about the HH setting but I have to disagree. Adeptus Titanicus is one of the better GW systems purely because of the limited factions. I still have nightmares about Epic40K Eldar titans and how unbalanced/game destroying they were. Sadly because in-game balance is not a strength of GW, limiting the number of factions is the only way to ensure that isn't repeated. The balance ideas David lists above are pretty cool, I have to say.
@add3to63 күн бұрын
@@boardinbrum5912Coming to the conclusion that you don't want variety in a game system because the company that makes the product is so inept is an incredible state of affairs.

Horus Heresy was not in a good enough place to receive a little brother who directly competes for its attention and resources. And it still isn’t The most positive thing many heresy fans can say about Legion Imperialis is that it’s a better roadmap for Horus Heresy releases than the ones GW provides.
@impguardwarhamer3 күн бұрын
8mm is a much better scale for battles as grand as in the heresy. If only one of these systems deserves to survive it should be legions
