This should be shared in every English class. I don't believe any of my English teachers ever went that deep into why literature is important and why we shouldn't just read the Coles notes.

I definitely agree, as our life is limited, spatially and chronologically, literature remains the only window through we can get flashes of insight into past and present “human experience”

That was such a lovely interview, his frankness and lack of pretension is refreshing; also liked his very intelligent observations

I'd like to shake his hand. I teach at a college and have to constantly explain why the world of literature matters. Thank you for this! 📚 📖 📙 📘

Literature in school can give us eyes into the human experience. Reading great literature gives insight into a multitude of lives. See through their eyes, feel what they felt, learn what they learned.

Literature is also useful for the expression and communication of Truth. When we can see how things play out in a story (especially a realistic one), it can help us visualize how things may go in our own lives. How often have we taken ideas about life from Disney stories etc? Literature plays a great role in communicating truth, or skewing it.

Literature, to me, brings even high school students who might not really care, to certain heights. Small poems, long books, enhanced words, all of these build on a certain standard that helps maintain special circumstances in modern culture. It's very important that we learn more about literature each and every day.

The interviewer clearly seems nervous and seems to rush the interview and does not seem to give him, ie... the speaker, the essential response in order for him to truly complete any train of thought that he articulates

It's shocking that even Monkey D. Luffy thinks Literature is important! :) Ha. I love Literature because English is the only subject in school that I understand and like. I write all of the time, and read a lot too. I use the correct your/you're and know all of my they're/their/there's too. These are small things that students in my class struggle with.
