I used to think that it was bad having over 50 dogs, like surely Lee can't love on them everyday. Then I realised no, they have each other to go to. That's what a pack does. They don't have to go and spend every hour with Lee craving attention as they all play, sleep and love on each other knowing that the Alpha is simply there is enough ❤❤

I think it would be bad for the average situation. With The Asher House, Lee has helpers there that also work with the dogs. In addition, this is Lee's full-time job and obsession and he has resources to provide the best home, food, vet care, and grooming. So, while I think the sanctuary is a bit of heaven on earth for most dogs, I think there are a lot of things that come together to make it so.

Removing both eyes I think, little bear is blind and has eye issues, one of which is I think when the eye lashes grow inside the eye so causes pain

@@matildamatilda7458 An entropion or ectropion repair is an operation to correct an eyelid that turns in or turns out. The operation should improve symptoms caused by entropion or ectropion. If left undone it might cause damage to the cornea. It's unclear if Little Bear can see or not but the condition can be painful ("he's on pain meds") so the procedure must be done regardless.

I believe both eyes are being removed. Neither eye developed fully, which is why he is blind, and on top of that, his eye lid roll inwards, scraping on what little eyes he does have, causing him excruciating pain. Poor puppers 😢! He’ll feel so much better once they are gone. They aren’t serving any purpose, except as a source of pain and disease.

​@Wendy Alyson Yes. I worked for a vet for 10 years, and this eye condition is seriously painful for a dog. It can be managed if found early, but will cause irreparable damage if not. Such a shame to lose his eyes, though. Bet they were so pretty.

The problem with being a very cute puppy is, that people will go to a breeder and Buy one. Sadly not everybody does the required homework first; what kind of dog is this breed, how big will he grow, does this breed have health issues, etc, etc. Maybe Little Bear was bought just because he was cute and maybe, he was abandoned, when the owner discovered, that chow chows are not like most breeds and, that they may suffer from health issues, as for example the eyes which will need an operation and that grooming is important. It's heartbreaking to know, that so many puppies are born each and every year while at the same time so very many dogs are brought into pounds - discarded and unwanted . I wish there was an easy fix to this very distressing problem, but there isn't, is there!?

Little Bear has eyelashes that are turned inward causing damage to his eyes. I can’t remember if they are taking his eyes or not. It’s very painful as is.

My bloodhound Buford had that eyelash problem I’m sorry I never had it taken care of he passed away at six from stupid lousy cancer. I believe Little Bear. Has a much worse case.

My rescue Shih Tzu mix had the same eyelash issue. It was simply taken care of by my vet. He just cauterized the ingrown eyelashes & my dog is sooo much more comfortable now & the eyelashes haven’t grown back. My vet does this all of the time.

It sounds as if he's got entropion. Chow chows and shar peis have it, and other breeds too, and removing some fat around the eyes can solve the problem. 2 of my shar peis (rescue dogs) have had the operation. Once the operated area has healed the eyes usually become normal and will no longer cause the dog any problems.

If at any time your animal needs any surgery, as we all know it can be expensive, rather than dump, abandon your animals, look for resources that help ppl and their animals. Resources are out there. Horribly, I lived in a tiny town in East Texas called Jacksonville located in Cherokee county. There are so many unwanted dogs roaming around, that its not unusual to see packs of dogs roaming around in the family neighborhood. The Pound is so tiny that it has given up on trying to list pets available for adoption and instead has opted for euthanizing dogs that go unclaimed within 2-3 weeks after their arrival in the city kennel. They used to at least publish the list of dogs that will be euthanized and the date. As if that isn’t heartbreaking enough, the city pound AND local police do not handle any call regarding an animal outside the city limits. And because the culture of this area, they seem and behave like not getting their dog fixed isn’t important and a mass amount of people, more than 3/4 of them, believe dogs are property and treat as such. Never trained, left outside regardless of the weather, poor vet care if any. And their “property” too expensive to keep supplying them with food or if this “property” begins to feel or seem like a nuisance, they simply drive out to a dirty county road in the country and usually throw them out the truck and truly lucky is the owner even opens the truck door first. I’m ashamed to even be associated with that town, even the county. So I volunteered for a tiny shelter that relies heavily on fostering parents who give lots of loving and proper nutrition until the next transport is scheduled and the pups are brought to kennels/rescue all over the country that have created a partnerships to help these fur babies and the mass amount of over population. We would quite literally drive up and down the dirt roads everyday to find the dogs that had been dumped, put them in our cars and take them directly to the vet! Then their journey to their new life begins! That’s how I found my dog at the age of 2 1/2 weeks. She’s my only foster fail in 15 years!

But I want to create it in a place where the situation of dog dumping occurs everyday, with about 7-8 dogs are abandoned each and every day!
