In my opinion, this film is one of the most underrated Westerns of all time, yet it is on my Top Ten List as one of the greatest Westerns ever made.Great script, acting,direction,and an unforgettable music score."Little Big Horn" and "The Steel Helmet" produced by Lippert Studios proves that you don't have to spend a lot of money to make a great film.

yeah the Indians had Winchester repeaters and Henry repeaters which they liked because of the cocking action and they were given to them on the reservations. They had muskets as well and yes the 7th used single shot Springfields, they out ranged the Indians an the idea would be to keep them at range and don't close with them. Once the Indians got within 200 yards the winchesters and henry's really took there toll.
@pracylopgonzer3176
@pracylopgonzer3176 7 ай бұрын
@@jasonbutler7054. You presented that very well. Yes the range of the Springfield’s was highly apprised by the Army but the Cheyenne were able to utilize ravines & rolling hills to close the distance so their shorter range repeating rifles now became a primary factor over range
@2bingtim
@2bingtim 6 ай бұрын
The army thought that it would be a waste of ammunition giving troopers Winchesters, that they'd use it all up too quickly. Plus they were more expensive than Springfeild carbines. However, not all Indians had Winchesters, many had other older guns or no gun at all, just bows, lances etc or just pistols. Troopers were found to have had problems with cartridge casings jamming in the carbines after firing a while. Army markmanship was generally quite poor too.
@2bingtim
@2bingtim 6 ай бұрын
The Springfield carbine actually often replaced the ACW era Spencer carbine that was a 7 shot repeater, though the most common ACW carbine was the single shot Sharps..

Actually, through my research/studies (Sociologist/Behavioralist and Historian), I've come to discover that Cluster received some defaming press. If his wife had not dedicated herself to writing and Speaking Engagements the remainder of her life, they would have really made a "Scape Goat" out of him. He was high Spirited, but "He followed Orders" period. They knew, they say him up for that tragedy. ... it had multiple purposes: To pave the way for an excuse, to finish destroying the Native People's. The Industrialists aka Corporatists of the era, were after their lands for Natural Resources, gold/silver/copper/lead/minerals, and the land for free Profiting on Land Sales. ... and the Railroads wanted free reign, plus no worries about fear over travels. Custer also was a threat to these Industrialists, he had already called out President Grant's brother, in Court, for accepting Money from the same individuals. These are the 1% 9f the 1% Elites whose grandchildren still "run this country" through their Ownerships and the system they say up in 1913, including the Privately Owned Federal Reserve Bank Corporation, which owns all Central Banks and 90% of the Financial Corps, IRS, CIA and way more. This can still be traced back through public records. I'm thinking Custer was set up for an assured assassination and the Native People's were fed info to make sure they would overpower the Calvary, but they didn't realize it would also seal their own fate. These people have such vast wealth, they employ, can and have paid for several detailed planned events. (Not a Theory when the facts are available.) They own the News Medias too, thus to distract folks, they fostered the public to automatically think "Conspiracies are just a trait of over-imagination", that concept "is" nuts, people conspired then and they do now.. Would have been alright with 10 times more action and 10 times less boring chit chat. The action bits are absolutely terrible. Nowhere near the Little Bighorn either. Garbage movie.

Most people today are no longer able to listen to dialoges or even to concentrate unless there is permanent overdone action by super-heroes with cuts every 3 seconds.

Sure is lots comments about dumb custer! But General crook who came after was not dumb because he brought a full brigade plus 8 wagons of 4 gatling guns and extra ammunition plus 6 smooth bore ball cannons and 2 wagons of extra powder! Also his soldiers all had the new 7 shot henry repeater rifles in 30 caliber! He killed almost all the indians and took some lightly wounded braves and a few chiefs prisoner!

no, Crook retreated with is tail between his legs, e never come back as planned to reach Custer e Custer was destroyed. Crook was the blame not Reno

The Indians have repeating rifles while the Yankees have a single shooter. So sad, Captain got three arrows and still alive, very poor setup of action.

And that is after his late appearance at the Alamo, old Joe is an all American hero, in his own mind.
