NMH performance @ Chris Bilheimer's Birthday Party 5/12/98
Little birds born without a mother or a father
I can watch their bodies forming in the running water
Now there is another in the middle of my mouth
A hundred altogether within me now
Little bird, little bird come into my body
Mother, they're within me every moment I'm awaking
Bodies multiplying until they finally overtake me
Open up my mouth but all you'll ever hear is singing
Put you hand within me and you'll know what I'm feeling
I just want to swallow up and promise to protect them
Daddy come to touch me but he seen his hands are shaking
Look into my eyes and he could see their bodies breaking
Push me to the floor and in his hands I started beating
"I don't want to hear it anymore", he kept repeating
Do you really want the burning hell that we believe in?
Did you know the burning hell it took your baby brother?
Did you see how far he fell and how he made us suffer?
Another boy in town at night he took him for his lover
And deep in sin they held each other
So I took a hammer and nearly beat his little brains in
Knowing God in heaven could have, never could forgive him
So I took a hammer and I nearly beat his brains in
Little boy born without a father of a mother
Taken to the river and then pushed into the water
And the priests are singing that the hell is getting hotter
Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the only one to save him
From the thing he loves the most but we know will betray him
Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the only one to save him
From the thing he loves the most but we know will betray him
And here beneath the water I can see
How the lights distort so strange
And I think this is how I would like to leave my body
And start again

im sorry dawg, but i didnt pay $40 to be swarmed by security every time i even turn my screen on. it's seriously pretentious bullshit. NMH has some of the best music ive ever heard, and i cant even see a cool show because the creator is a paranoid hermit, and the outspoken fans are the most pretentious douchebags ever that i feel guilty sometimes for even liking this music. alas, i must be steadfast because culture will die in 23 years

Bumbleberger it's good lyricism but ur a derelict douche. his shit WILL fade away because his fans will make sure his music dies with them. Elliott Smith was basically the same shit, but he touched more people universally than Jeff Mangum ever will.

Until last night, he said THIS was the ONLY time he performed this song in public... I got to see it the second time, and it was great. I'm so glad Jeff decided to play it. I know it was tough for him to revisit that place, but he did and it was beautiful. Thanks so much, Jeff. You gave me one hell -- or should I say heavenly -- of an experience.

Art. at its peak. Jeff takes simple chords..lands heavy lyrics and fictional melodies and creates songs that even my hairs understand and decide to stand up for in respect.

People can talk shit all they want. Jeff has every right to not want his shows recorded. Obviously some of them did, and I'm thankful for the chaotic nature of the world for that. If jeff wants to be a hermit, who in the fuck has the right to say hes a piece of shit for that. My dream is to rise to an underground following, under the mystery of some sort of masquerade. Jeff invoked the true feeling of music, he is tap dancing with Pan as he skips into history. Peoples anger doesn't change that. How many people do you know that are camera shy? how many people do you that refuse to keep a face book? God damn, this some is about how something some one else thinks is fun and beautiful is beat down by others. I have some issues. I wont call them mental illnesses. But i have issues with perspective and thinking, or rather ideas, that alot of other people dont even consider or go through...... And there is depth in this world. If jeff was any more public with himself, He would have been torn down by bullshit media and everything and one else. If you had an opportunity to make money, you would, especially if it was from your fruits of labor. Your desire. I would love to make money off of my music so that i could live a better quality of life and create more music and art. Narcissism is a part of the human architecture. and your mad at jeff for marketing and making money, while there are those who rape and abuse. There are those who never made a dime in their entire lives, and live "humbly" yet they do otrocious things. I would never call Jeff scum because I grew up in house where sexual abuse and physical violence were the bad. My scale must be different. I've seen true sickness manifesting, and its much worse than any one whose made money. No ones bitching about that. WOnt you make a stand against true evil instead of popping off at the mouth about a muscian you probably got peer pressured into hating. Just because people are mad at him doesnt mean you have to be. It seems like it all trickles back to the fact that he is not seeking extensive fame rapidly, that he doesnt want EXTRA PUBLICITY> When a person records a show and puts it on youtube, thats like, a magazine running an article. any thing could come from it. Look at what happens to the famous. Maybe jeff knew he didnt want that. PS phones cause radiation and they should be destroyed any way/
