The thing I love about super nanny is the way she identifies the problem objectively and gives the parents simple yet useful instructions to better the family. So many families could benefit from super nanny’s advice!

What I like too is that she actually talks to the kids. If I were an unruly child, my first thought would be "oh shitfuck, Supernanny! She's gonna make my parents strict and I won't be able to have fun, cause of rules, etc", and she completely subverts that; there's so many times where she talks to the kids and asks them what's wrong, you don't like how your parents treat you, it's unfair isn't it, that kind of thing. She wants the families to just get along like they're supposed to.

I actually find her methods outdated and harmful. Her naughty spot idea is an isolation/separation technique which usually makes things worse. I am not sure she understood the difference between punishment and discipline. And her judgmental preaching and lecturers are considered major roadblocks to self-change. She also liked to create unnecessary drama (drama sells well) by making unprofessional critical comments or gestures.

@EllaMBV Yes, labelling, isolating, taking away privileges are all punishments, esp, when done with anger or other negative emotions. This way we're conditioning children to do things out of fear, gilt, or shame at the expense of trust and respect. Some kids quickly learn how to not get caught, whilst some become even more aggressive.

When i was around 6 my parents would fight CONSTANTLY. Like screming, cutting the others clothes up, that bad.. I told in school that i was scared that they would divorce. So the nurse asked me if i wanted to speak with the therapist & i said yes.. so i was told she would come get me from class the next day. So i sat and waited the whole day but no one came. My mom had found out bout it, called the school & told them that they weren't going to divorce, so there was no need for me to talk to anyone. She decided that herself & she never talked to me about it in ny way & i really felt abandoned. The fighting & constant screaming just continued. Esp my dad & sister.. As soon as i was 18 left. Parents are insane if they think their fighting dosen't harm or affect their kids..

I don't understand how it gets to this point. How are so many parents completely clueless about basic discipline and getting their kids to view them as authority figures as well as loving parents? The only attention the dad seems to be doing is literally training them to fight. They get awarded attention for fighting, so, they fight. 100% chance that the homophobic slur was learned from their father who is obsessed with them "being men."

I really wish I had super nanny growing up. I'm 15 now, and looking back I'd really like to be closer with my parents like I was when I was little. It sucks not having then know what they've done wrong and being unable to talk to them about it. Good on Joe for the work she has done helping all these family's. She is an incredible person and I wish her the best.

It has been the most healing actions I have experienced in our family. Thank goodness for Jo and my prayers of discernment being answered

They could be separated. My Aunt who’s an extreme Catholic doesn’t believe in divorce but is clearly hiding her separation from her husband from the family. It’s so obvious. They live in separate towns and split their things. Since this man has serious pride issues it wouldn’t shock me to hear it’s a similar situation.

What the parents NEED to do is take an Interpersonal Communication class. You learn about how you never win an argument by being louder than the other person. You sit calmly, listen, and take in what the other person is saying rather than raising your voice and egging the other person on to be more aggressive.

I am 48 years now. My entire school years, from first to last grade, I came home from school, had lunch and had to do my homework right after. And no matter how long it took, playtime ALWAYSand without one single exeption startet, after all the homework was done. And that's the ONLY way, how to do it right. Kids are tired and exhausted after playing , fighting and running around all afternoon. And then aparents expect them to be concentrated on homework late in the afternoon or evening ??? And Supernanny never mentions that as an issue ??? COME ON !!!
